24 hour time Lock Screen bug

iPhone displaying 24-hour time on Lock Screen, although the option is disabled in Settings? 12-hour time is showing correctly in the status bar, but the 24 hour format is stuck Lock Screen? This looks like an early iOS 16 bug!

The issue has been reported by Hermoso on our iOS 16 Public Beta review page:

“My iphone is showing 24 hour time on Lock Screen although I’ve switched it to 12 hours.”

We couldn’t replicate the issue on our test devices. Nevertheless, I’ve found similar report on Reddit:

“How do I switch my Lock Screen to 12 hour time?”

How To Fix 24 Hour Time Bug

This is an early iOS 16 clock bug that should be fixed until the public release. In the meantime you can apply the following:

1. Reboot iPhone

The first step is to restart your device. A fresh boot could flush minor glitches that could prevent the current time from displaying in the chosen format on the Lock Screen.

Use the the force restart trick to quickly reboot your device.

Tip: I recommend you to open Settings -> General -> Date & Time. Enable 24-Hour Time, disable it and restart device. Does it work?

2. Add New Lock Screen

If the problem persists, create a new Lock Screen:

  • Long-press on the Lock Screen to enter Edit mode.
  • Tap the + icon, available in the bottom-right corner.
  • Select a Wallpaper.
  • Add widgets, edit time font & color.
  • Tap Done to Set as Wallpaper Pair or Customize a different Home Screen.

3. Check For Updates

Apple will issue a new iOS 16 beta every two weeks or even more frequent. Follow us or check in Settings -> General -> Software Update for a new release that could permanently fix this issue.
