Accidental Lock Screen edits

Are you accidentally opening Lock Screen edit mode after iOS 16 update? Customize wallpaper menu is triggered too easy when touching the screen? Here is what you can do to fix it!

Accidental Lock Screen Edit Menu?

This annoyance has been reported by Mady:

“I’m accidentally triggering this Lock Screen edit menu. Is there an option to block it?”

We don’t find the hold gesture too sensitive and did not experience any accidental triggers of the Customize wallpaper screen. However, we’ve found similar complaints on Reddit:

“Is there a way to prevent this? Disable it? I have mobility issues in my hands and it often comes up and can’t get rid of it.”

Apparently, iPhone users with mobility issues, that require more time between taps are prone to accidentally trigger the Customize Wallpaper screen.

How To Prevent Accidental Lock Screen Edit Menu Triggers

Lock Screen edit menu can be accidentally triggered when the user swipes up to unlock! If the swipe gesture is done to slow, because of motor issues, the interaction is perceived as a touch & hold gesture by iOS 16!

iOS 16 doesn’t provide an option to block or disable the Customize Wallpaper menu on the Lock Screen. However, you can apply the following workaround:
touch accommodations ios 16 settings

  • 1. Open Settings and scroll for Accessibility.
  • 2. Tap on Touch, under Physical and Motor section.
  • 3. Go for Touch Accommodations and enable them.
  • 4. Turn On Hold Duration and increase the duration you must touch the screen before a touch is recognized.
  • Fact: Try to double the time to 0.2 sec first and this it out. If it still happens you can go back and increase even more.

Downside: This will affect all taps on your iPhone, which means that you have to tap longer each time for a tap to be registered!
