Facts About Amazon Basics 3.5mm Male to Female Stereo Audio Extension Adapter Cable – 6 Feet

Can this extension cord be used for headphones, not just stereo systems?

This is a “Tip Ring Sleeve” or “TRS” extension cord. It can carry a stereo signal just fine but if you have a head set with a microphone that uses one plug to connect both the head phones in the microphone then it’s not going to support the microphone. This is because a microphone headphone combo head set uses a “Tip R… This is a “Tip Ring Sleeve” or “TRS” extension cord. It can carry a stereo signal just fine but if you have a head set with a microphone that uses one plug to connect both the head phones in the microphone then it’s not going to support the microphone. This is because a microphone headphone combo head set uses a “Tip Ring Ring Sleeve” or “TRRS” connection and basic headphones just need “Tip Ring Sleeve” or “TRS” connection. Googling “Tip Ring Sleeve” and looking at the images section will probably demystify the naming scheme.

How can we tell if headphones using are of the 4-pole variety (eg. headset + mic) or 3-pole to know they will work better with this cable?( Ezflyer54)

Generally, 4 pole plugs will have a mic in the line for use with a phone. If you wire has no mic, then it should be a 3 pole plug.

Will this work for Bose QuietComfort 25 and 35?

Hi David! I looked up the QuietComfort headsets on the Bose website, and it looks to me that they use a standard 3.5 mm cable/connector. But, just to be sure, call their customer support to confirm….the phone number is: 1-800-379-2073. Good luck!!

Is this 3 or 4 pole

It is a 3 pole and works well.

what quality does this have for desktop gaming?

great!!!!

Any statuc or scratchy feedback on mobile devices? Are they compatible with android

No feedback. Andriod compatible.

Does it work as an extension of camera mic cable?

As long as your camera / mic cable has a 3.5mm input jack

Will this cable work w/ headphones that have volume control? is 3 pole vs. 4 pole a concern? i want to listen to youtube videos from a distance.

Yes. Mine works well with headphone that has volume control

will these work with to extend Bose 20 headphones to a TV?

I used it with my Bose headsets it worked great…

are the quality is the same when I connect my headset to my souncard?

Yes! Same great quality!

I have two ext. cables connected to headphones to reach 20 ft to pc or tv and with both there is a hum. will this sound bettr & w/o hum that distance?

Hmmm, the Hum you hear is likely parasitic 60 Hz leaking in from AC into your instrumentation cabling. Not uncommon where something is not hooked up correctly. It might be from “ground loops”, or…when you say two ext. cables do you mean actually two single wires run without shielding? Don’t do that, use a cable such … Hmmm, the Hum you hear is likely parasitic 60 Hz leaking in from AC into your instrumentation cabling. Not uncommon where something is not hooked up correctly. It might be from “ground loops”, or…when you say two ext. cables do you mean actually two single wires run without shielding? Don’t do that, use a cable such as this. I use this particular cable without any problem from TV to simple otherwise unpowered headphones.

Will this connect a bluetooth/usb/aux. speaker to a microphone?

This cable will connect any 2 devices that have an input/output and both use a 1/8″ mini jack. Not sure of the microphone but normally they use a bigger 1/4″ jack or an xlr cable, so this may not work by itself, you may need additional adapters.

I need length for my headset to reach back of tv. My tip is thin. i ordered this-do i need Y adapter or something for my little tip to fit into this?

You would need to know what size tip you have so you could get the correct size adapter to work with this cable. It is the standard size 3.5 mm cable that works with headphones. It is a great cable though. Hope that helps.

Will this fit sony mdr-xb950bt? i’ve been going through a few 3.5mm aux cable, but they don’t fit all the way in.

I don’t have that exact model of Sony headphones, but I have the same “fit” issue with my Sony MDRXB50AP. This cable accepts them. It just takes an extra push to seat properly after inserting.

Does this fit into a lifeproof case?

No you would need a dongle extension for it to fit in a life proof case

Cable works well as advertised. Just don’t be dumb like me and order it for an extension to a Mic/headset combo. This cable supports output only.

If You Pay For Wireless, You’re Just Fancy lol

Works Great! This Thing Saved Me Some Cash Baby! I was about to spend a hundred or more on a pair of those Wireless Headphones with the base and all that, because my wife will fall asleep while we’re “trying” to binge a series and then Pop Up “Out” that sleep asking “me” to turn down the volume on the series that “we” were just binge watching before she decided to fall asleep LMBO. Needless to say, after a couple times of this happening, I said to myself, “Self…You need some of those fancy wireless headphones so that you can continue to enjoy while the enemy sleeps” lol. After searching the web, there just was no low priced option into this new, monogamous form of binge watching…Then right when I was about to drop the dough, I had an Epiphany! I thought, well, if it’s just going to be “me” up late watching, she’s in the bed sleep, not up walking around, why couldn’t I search for some kind of Very Long adapter that will cover the 10 -12 feet from my TV to the couch. Ha ha haaaa….need I say more?

I dream in stereo

Great, long cable that does the job perfectly. I’m using this to connect to my PC’s sound card and am passing 32-bit 48hz Dolby Atmos to a set of headphones without any sound distortion. there IS something to be mindful of, however…not a knock per se but a product feature OR lack there of, at least on this model of cable: It’s ONLY stereo and doesn’t have the built-in third ring that passes integrated mic audio.

This shouldn’t be considered a negative, but you need to be aware of this if you planned on using it with headphones with an integrated mic.

The Goldilocks length of cable, neither too small or too big! Just right!

I like to fall asleep listening to my audible books on my Kindle Fire every night. The problem is once I plug in my Fire, my earbuds don’t reach. I bought a 15 foot cord that I had to rubber band it up because it was too long. After a few months it broke so I needed a replacement. This Amazon Basic Male to Female Stereo cable is the perfect length at about 6 feet. It’s the exact Goldilocks length I needed, not too small and not too big.

I was pleased at the heavy duty connectors on this and also the strong cable that looks to last a long time. My earbuds fit perfectly and I can fall asleep comfortably each night.

I love being able to buy from Amazon Basics, they have great quality products and if there is a problem, the customer service is excellent too.
Very pleased with this purchase.

No loss of audio quality!

Works awesome! I am very picky about sound quality and have multiple high end headphones. There is ZERO audio quality lost in the cord i received. I would definitely buy this again. I did see there was some people who said they had audio quality loss, but i bought this knowing amazon is a great company to work with and would refund me if i had issues. I have been really happy with AmazonBasic cables. They are cheap and very excellent quality! I love the look of this cable. Nice clean look!

The perfect headphone extender for my Pioneer headphones

Update 6/22/2022: I love this headphone cable extender so much that I purchased a second one to have for my other set of headphones so I don’t have to keep switching it back and forth. Sound quality is still fantastic, no scratching or skipping of sound, and I use my headphones daily with this extender.

I have a laptop computer with only one headphone port. I have my Logitech speakers plugged into that port, so that means the only way I can use headphones is by plugging them into the headphone port on my speakers. Lucky it’s a standard 3.5 mm jack so my Pioneer headphones fit perfectly. However the cord is too short.

My Pioneer over the ear headphones are awesome. They have great sound quality and I like them better than the Bose headphones that I have owned in the past. Unfortunately the cord for the headphones is super short and if I’m working on my laptop the cord barely reaches from one side of my laptop table to the other.

That’s when I decided to order an extension cable. The Amazon Basics one is a 3.5 mm size and had a 6′ cord. It seemed perfect. I worried about it affecting sound quality since the headphones would be plugged into the extension cable and then into the speakers, but the sound quality is excellent.

I love that I can listen to music while I am using my laptop. The cord gives me plenty of room to stretch all the way around the laptop table which is ideal for when I am working on projects not on my laptop like diamond painting.

I have owned other brands of extension cables that are 3 and 4 times the price. There is literally zero quality difference in those extension cables and this Amazon Basics one. I leave it connected to my headphones all the time. This is another Amazon Basics product that I am completely satisfied with.

Just what I was looking for

This cord is what I was looking for. I needed some extra wiggle room at work and this gave it to me. I can see how the cord might break quickly if you lean on it or accidentally roll over it with your chair. I did notice that there is a difference with this cord from when I used my headphones by themselves. There’s not exactly an echo but almost sounds as if the sound coming through the headphones is traveling through the cord. Its one of those things you have to hear and experience for yourself. I like the cord and would definitely recommend it.

Very well shielded

This is a typical 3 pin stereo cable (tip, first ring, and ground). I used this as a pluggable cord for a lab sensor, and I needed it to have a shield. So I opened up one to check, and found that it is very WELL shielded. There is a tightly wrapped foil shield along with an uninsulated drain wire, and of course the two signal conductors (internally red and white). The wire gauge is quite small but certainly appropriate for this kind of cable. I would estimate it to be about 26 AWG, and it is stranded so it should do well for headphone use and survive well with reasonable amounts of flexing and normal movement. Since it is well shielded it should also do very well for a low level signal connections.

I noticed others complaining about hum, which it cannot be this cable (it is shielded). It has to be the AV equipment being used. Hum in AV equipment is actually more often due to the poor power supply line voltage isolation if they are using “double insulated” internal supplies in the AV equipment. If your AV equipment has only a two prong AC plug like is common to the US, that is exactly what is being done. If there is too much capacitance through the internal isolation transformer, the 60Hz / mains frequency couples right in. The only solution there is to use a separate grounding wire between AV equipment and/or an audio ground loop transformer.

Thank You!

Just what I was looking for. And a very attractive cord too, by the way. Looks very high quality. I love the shiny chrome parts of the cord. This cord has freed me up from having to sit in one spot with my laptop computer, plugged into my speakers and my favorite studio headphones, that happen to be a plug-in version also. Now I can move around a little more and enjoy my music and movies a lot more comfortably without the speaker cord popping out all the time. And the sound is just as clear as it is when my devices are hooked up directly to my speakers and headphones. There’s no static or weird noises or anything. Just clear and good performance. I will be buying more. And the packaging was top quality too. I really appreciate that. Keep up the great work, Amazon! 🙂

Should Have Bought Much Earlier

Aging with hearing loss and did not wish to deal with anything wireless to enhance watching TV – primarily movies. Noticed our smart TV had stereo earphone jack and so I decided on this extension and my stereo headphones. Works well and the long cord is somewhat of a bonus. I can control the volume level with the TV remote etc. I should have looked closer at back of TV when first bought and gotten this extension a long time ago. 4 Stars on durability since I don’t know how long it will work well but appears extremely durable. Wish they manufactured a small reel to take up some of the cord slack.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the 6-foot Adapter Cable helps you connect two devices with 3.5mm (1/8-inch) stereo audio ports. It’s particularly useful when connecting two headphones to a single source, such as a smartphone or tablet. The Adapter Cable is compact and easy-to-use. You can use it at home, in the office, or on the go.
