What’s the gauge of the cord? Thinking of buying a 16 guage extension for flat plug

I believe it is 14 gauge.

The length is perfect but can i use it with a ups? or is there a ups available built like this?

I would think with a UPS it could be used. Although, that’s better answered with the specs of you UPS.. I’m not aware of ups shaped like this.

UL

good quality strip. I mounted it to the back of my shop bench. perfect size with 24 outlets.

How long js the cord on the 12 plug strip

I do not have the 12 plug strip. I bought the 16 outlet power strip Amazon Basics brand. It has a 6 foot cord coming out of one end of it. Love it. Receptacles are space wider than most power strips, and it mounts much easier to a wall with brackets on each end with mounting screw holes exposed.

Does it comes with mounting screws?

Yes

What is the length of the power cord on the 16 outlet?

The cable for the power strip is about 4 feet long.

Does the 16 outlet model plug cord exit from the end rather than the side?

I bought several so I’m not positive about this model but I’m pretty sure that every one I bought (different lengths) all had the cord coming out the long end. Of course the product amazon carries might change from time to time – that I don’t know.

Info About Amazon Basics Heavy Duty Metal Surge Protector Power Strip with Mounting Brackets – 12-Outlet, 600-Joule (15A On/Off Circuit Breaker) (Reviews From Amazon)

Great power strip for workbench, and it is too long for office.

Surge protectors often look just like power strips, but not all power strips are surge protectors. Only surge protections help protect your gadgets against power surges. Many power strips are just glorified extension cords without any protection. But you can tell whether a strip provides surge protection with just a few seconds of examination.

This power strip surge protector gives me extra power where I need it the most which is in the main living room here. It is rated at 600 joules surge rating. Amazonbasics surge protector passes the electrical current along from the outlet to several electrical and electronic devices plugged into the power strip. If the voltage from the outlet surges or spikes rises above the accepted level the surge protector diverts the extra electricity into the outlet’s grounding wire.

We live in Gulf coast of Florida, where lightning strike always happens, and my TV and computer are protected from this surge protector. I also had AXTRA 12 outlet power strip surge protector that protected our electronics against lightning strikes last time – all this equipment: TV, receiver, surround sound system, printer and gaming consoles. I highly recommend AXTRA power strip surge protector because you will not need to worry your electronics getting severe damage by lightning strike. It’s wise idea to invest your money in a quality surge protector.

These power strip would help in case of a lightning strike and it should be good for the next few years until surge suppression wear out. This surge protectors also have a built-in fuse. A fuse is a resistor that can easily conduct current as long as the current is below a certain level. If the current increases above the acceptable level, the heat caused by the resistance burns the fuse, thereby cutting off the circuit. If the MOV doesn’t stop the power surge, the extra current will burn the fuse, saving the connected machine. This fuse only works once, as it is destroyed in the process. These semiconductors have a variable resistance that is dependent on voltage. When voltage is below a certain level, the electrons in the semiconductors flow in such a way as to create a very high resistance. When the voltage exceeds that level, the electrons behave differently, creating a much lower resistance. When the voltage is correct, an MOV does nothing. When voltage is too high, an MOV can conduct a lot of current to eliminate the extra voltage. As soon as the extra current is diverted into the MOV and to ground, the voltage in the hot line returns to a normal level, so the MOV’s resistance shoots up again. In this way, the MOV only diverts the surge current, while allowing the standard current to continue powering whatever machines are connected to the surge protector. Metaphorically speaking, the MOV acts as a pressure-sensitive valve that only opens when there is too much pressure.

Perfect for workbench.

I had 20 years of electrical experience, and all of these opinions are personal experience. Amazonbasics industrial graded power strip for indoor use. It is rated at 1875W and 15 amps to power all major appliances. The wire can handle temperature with maximum of 60 cecluis (140 Fahrenheit).

It is a 12-outlet power strip with heavy duty 6 foot power cord and 14-American wire gauges. It is made with high quality aluminum housing materials. Construction is solid. It is relatively lightweight and well-constructed. Reset button on the top of the rail next to the power cable. I own two of these and they work great for mounting under desks to organize and hide your power cords and transformers or other areas with high concentrations of electronics. All 2 of them are plugged into 2 different larger home office UPS to maximize protection of electronics in a regularly problematic power area. I also bought AXTRA power strip (the best quality surge protector) the other one that I have this mounted on the wall behind my desk and it feeds my three monitors, docking station, a few lights, a driller, and I still have enough plugs left to hook up my development projects and other needs. I would definitely recommend AXTRA power strip to anyone looking to get a new power strip in any area of the house especially for computer and TV entertainment.

Clean and organized power solution for entertainment center

TL;DR: Great surge protector for home theater. Easy to mount. Well spaced outlets for large block plugs.
**Two pictures are pre install and two are post install**

Pros
-12 well spaced outlets for drop down and sideways plugs
-Easy to mount
-Thin profile

Cons
-600 joules might be low for some home theater enthusiasts with a lot of equipment
-Mounting screws not included

I have a home theater with a lot of equipment. In total, I have 15 devices plugged in behind my TV stand. I have two outlets in the wall (4 plugs) and prior to setting up this surge protector strip, I was using two large power blocks on the floor. My TV stand is a 60” wide so there was plenty of room for this stip. It was very difficult to plug/unplug devices from the old power strips because they were behind the TV and stand all the way on the ground.

I was discussing power options with a friend of mine and he mentioned something about these desk style bench strips so I started looking on Amazon and sure enough, the AmazonBasics brand was the cheapest and had a lot of good reviews.

Once I received it, the hard work began. I pulled out my entertainment center and unplugged everything. The power strip attached to the back of my TV stand at the top using 4 screws, 2 on each side. The screws are NOT included with the power strip. Once attached, it was just a matter of plugging in and zip tying the cables to make it much cleaner.

Some people might be worried about the 600 joules, but honestly although I have all 12 outlets filled, I only use 3 at most at a single given time so I do not believe there would be an issue. (If you live in areas with unstable weather, please use the recommended joules for your area)

Now, if I need to add/remove a plug, I simply have to lean around the tv and access the power strip without needing to climb behind the TV stand. Very happy with my purchase! **Two of my pictures are pre install and two are post install**

Affordable, sturdy, and practical

I just needed a long power strip along my computer workbench with lots of ports. This fit the bill perfectly.

The port spacing is good, but most wall warts will still overlap an outlet next to it.

It didn’t come with any fasteners but not a big deal, just takes four screws/wall plugs to mount it, two on each end cap. The end caps are made of a hard plastic, would have been nice to have as metal, but seems sturdy enough.

The cord is about 6 ft long, would be nice to have it a bit longer, but works for my needs.

The power switch is a bit too easy to activate though, so be careful of accidental on/off. The light switch lights up as well was a separate red LED light to indicate it’s powered on. Not sure why need both, but OK. The separate red LED light is very bright though. Had to put a piece of electrical tape over it so it wasn’t so distracting.

Regarding the power switch, I did design a 3D print model flip cover for it, three actually, that you can find on Thingiverse if you just search ‘amazonbasics 24 port’, one vertical, one horizontal, and one sliding.

Haven’t used it very long, but powers on, the half dozen ports I tested work fine. Time will tell I guess.

Perfect! (but always room for improvement)

Ever since putting in a Husky brand garage cabinet system, I was looking for a solution on how to access the outlets that were now being covered. Ideally I was looking for a 72 inch power strip, but this worked beautifully. I purchased two of these so far, and they’re working great. As a test, I ran my tabletop bench sander, bandsaw, grinder, and drill press all on one power strip and did not trip the circuit. I’ll also say that it is not too bulky either. If I was to have any concerns, the mounting brackets on each end are plastic and I’m not sure how they will stand the test of time. If they do break, I’m not entirely sure how I will repair and re-mount. I think it would be helpful to have metal mounting brackets, a middle support bracket or keyhole style design to lock the power strip in place, but I suppose you get what you pay for. All things considered, for the price, number of outlets, and the length, this thing is great and I couldn’t be happier!

Another Way to Mount the 24 Outlet Strip

The materials used to make the 24 outlet strip are heavy duty except for the cheesy plastic mounting tabs on the ends. The entire length of this strip is housed inside of a three-sided extruded aluminum track, and the guts will just slide out from one end or the other once the end caps are unscrewed. That being said, use a countersink bit and some decent screws along its length for mounting the track from within, then reassemble, and it will stay put forever! If you don’t know what you’re doing, skip this, please.

24 outlet version came with metal brackets.

I was worried by some of the reviews describing plastic mounting brackets on the 24 port version. I’m happy to report that the one that arrived today has what appear to be sturdy metal brackets. That is all I know for now. I’ll update my review after using it for a while.

UPDATE 4/21/2022
Been using the power strip for about a month. It’s working very well. The mounting brackets are strong and the body is stiff. Very happy with my purchase.

Suitable for intended purpose and can run through a dimmer.

I fashioned a ~50″ dimmable light bar with this at a fraction of the cost of a ready-made unit. Also couldnt find one that fit my exact purpose: long light bar above bathroom sink. Using: E26/e27 Socket Adapter Converts Outlet to Lamp Socket, and: A15 LED Bulb Dimmable Refrigerator Appliance Bulbs, I can add and reposition bulbs to get the up/down effect I want behind a DIY sconce that will cover the front, allowing for the standoff distance from the wall: 5.5″ assembled. Light is a work in progress but the bar is a good one.

OCD SATISFIED!

This power strip makes wire organization SO easy! I purchased the 12 plug strip and it was the perfect length to attach to my furniture using two small wood screws (not included).
I also bought some wire channels and velcro strips to keep the cords untangled and easy to follow in case I ever need to unplug anything.
Now my entertainment center plugs into the wall itself and I don’t have two or three power strips on the floor behind it.
OCD SATISFIED!

The only con I can find is that both the “on” switch and the indicator light for the power strip glows super bright red when it’s on, so the entire wall behind the unit is always lit up with red. I covered mine with about 6 layers of white vinyl tape since that’s what I had on hand and it felt easy to swap out for a better solution later 😂 if you have black electrical tape, that should work to hide the glow.
The price is pretty steep if you ask me, but it was still less expensive than the other options.

Excellent for behind entertainment centers

I bought this when we got a very wide entertainment center. I knew that one outlet in the middle of the unit wasn’t going to cut it, as the two sides of the unit are like 4-5′ apart. This guy just lays down on the floor and provides plenty of outlet space. The outlets are placed very wide, which is perfect for entertainment centers as your items there often have plugs that, in a normal power strip, would block nearby outlets.

I docked it one star on quality simply because although the unit itself is built like a tank – heavy gauge metal the entire length – it does have plastic caps on each end, meant for hanging on the wall. Right out of the box one of the plastic ends was broken. It didn’t really matter enough to return it; it’s on the floor behind a quite heavy entertainment center, those clips weren’t serving a purpose for me, and I never ever see them.

The convenience of having outlets evenly spaced, right where I need them, in a device that is built very solid, is wonderful.
