This model does support Mini DisplayPort via Thunderbolt. System preferences->Sound o/p, only shows Internal Speakers. The HDMI cable is plugged into an aVR’s HDMI input and input switched. I get a Display resolution change(and display shows AVR o/p), which confirms the HDMI connection works fine, but not recognized as a Sound o/p device. What am I missing ? Is this defective?

i have macbook air 2013 connected but there is no sound

On a macbook pro the sound is unaffected – this is display only. I don’t think there is any sound connection associated with a pc connector like there is with some HDMI ports. If your speaker is in your display, try connecting a sound cable to feed its input. I don’t have a macbook air to test this with.

Is the item compatiable with a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet? The description only mentions Mac compatiability.

Mini DisplayPort is a standard port that works on all operating systems, Apple/Mac and PC/Windows. Any device with Mini DisplayPort will be able to use this adapter, including the MS Surface tablet.

Works on MacBook Air circa 2015

I was scared that this wouldn’t work for my MacBook Air. All fears are gone – It works!!

I have a smart tv and a smart blu-ray but adding apps to those after a certain point doesn’t work, which is really annoying. That’s where this little gadget helps. I can easily watch whatever I want on my laptop and plug it into my tv!

Did the trick for my iMac 27 inch 2013

Did exactly what I needed. I can mirror or extend the display, no issues or latency. Outputting the sound worked well also. It’s a 1080p LG tv, I haven’t tried it on my 4K one in the living room, since my Mac is a desktop, though I don’t see any issues. I’m not sure if it could reach 4K, as my Mac caps at 1440p on the internal display, but could probably render at 4K.

Only had it set up a day, but using it for YouTube and such is great on my office tv. The cable is a bit stiff, which in the long run will likely help with strain on the cable, but make sure your HDMI is long enough. Also, make sure to output the sound in system preferences to your tv, as by default on mine it did not output. My Mac is ruining Sierra 10.12.6 as well for those who were needing that information on software compatibility. (I haven’t jumped to high Sierra yet but foresee no issues on it with this).

Works *Perfectly*! I’m Using it with a Macbook Air to a Vizio Television/Monitor

I recently got a new Roku television, which meant that I needed to figure out what to do with my ‘old’ television (a Vizio TV/monitor) and my original stand-alone Roku (this one right here:  Roku 3 ). I mean, there was no way that I was going to get rid of that setup just because I had replaced it! 🙂

Geek that I am, I immediately thought “giant monitor!”, and with the added bonus of being able to watch Netflix, etc., on that monitor (because, Roku).

At the time I was using my newest laptop, a Macbook Pro, which has an HDMI port, as my primary computer, and so I just plugged my Vizio into the HDMI port of the MBP.

But for reasons which I won’t go into right now, I decided that I wanted to go back to my old Macbook Air as my primary computer. Once I had it all set up, right by my Vizio monitor/tv, I realized “Uh oh, the Macbook Air doesn’t have an HDMI port!”

{Talk about yer first-world problems, eh?)

So I jumped on Amazon, and searched for a Thunderbolt -> HDMI connector, and found this one.

(By the way, am I the only one who can never hear the term ‘Thunderbolt’ without thinking of that 70s movie,  Thunderbolt and Lightfoot ?)

Anyways, this Thunderbolt (no Lightfoot) to HDMI cable works *perfectly*! Straight out of the box, I plugged the Thunderbolt end into my Macbook Air, and the Vizio’s HDMI cable into the HDMI end, and..voila! A perfect, and gigantic, second screen for my Macbook Air!

[Note: For those of you trying this at home, remember that there are two different ways that your Mac can handle a second screen – it can either be a *true* second screen, to which you can move program/app windows from your primary screen, *or* it can be a “mirror”, meaning that it will simply display whatever is on your primary screen. You can play with these (and a few other display) settings under Preferences -> Display.]

Presto! My laptop has a giant screen now!

I didn’t even know a thing like this existed! I did a search “connect my Macbook laptop to display on TV” and presto! I had it the next day. Hook up was simple and just for fun I put music on my laptop so I could check the audio and well as video. No hitches at all. And the price was perfect.

I have to mention that this adapter plugs into a Thunderbolt, a mini-USB connection, not a Displayport which many Windows laptops use. So be sure to ask for what you need.
Also, I don’t think it goes the other way, if, for some reason, you wanted what you were streaming on your TV screen to be on your laptop.

Great projector for the price!

We’ve been using this small projector now for about two weeks and we are very pleased with it’s performance. It is lightweight and with the additional carrying case makes it easy to carry about. While the LED isn’t bright enough to use in full light, what projector is, it works great in a dark or semi-dark room. We have used it outdoors on our patio as well in other rooms in the house. We have also used it when making wildlife presentations at our local photography club. I highly recommend that when you get this product you also get a kindle fire-stick. They make a great combination for your viewing pleasure.

excellent adapter

Using it with a 15′ HDMI cable to connect my Surface 3 tablet to my 60″ TV and it works perfectly. Don’t really need it for that though, doing that proved that it’ll work for connecting the tablet to TVs in hotels/motels so that I can bring my Netflix and Hulu with me.

Adapter is Great!

AmazonBasics Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to HDMI Adapter
We have these minidisplay ports everywhere. I wanted to play music on my oldest radio, and my husband bought this adapter so I can! It works! People at church were trying to show videos and we needed an adapter and didn’t have one. This was inexpensive enough that we bought one for church, and now everyone that has the iPAD or iPHONE can use it! It works! We wanted to show a video we took on our TV and it wasn’t a smart TV. This adapter worked! We love it! Easy to mark so you know it’s yours, I’m sure we’ll be purchasing more. What a sweet Deal! AmazonBasics Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to HDMI Adapter

Need to connect HDMI monitor to Mini DisplayPort on Mac?

The Good:
-Good picture quality
-Portable
-Good value

The Bad:
-None

The Bottom Line:
My wife has an older Mac that has a mini display port. This adapter works very well with our HDMI monitor and the picture quality is great. Overall, I would recommend this adapter for its price and performance.

Used for Monitor Extension on MacBook Pro (Mid-2012)

I recently setup a dual monitor station for graphic design work. I purchased two base model monitors that only had one HDMI port. So I needed an adapter to connect from my MacBook Pro’s (Mid-2012) ThunderBolt port to HDMI. I didn’t have any luck finding any ThunderBolt adapters. Luckily, I was able to find this AmazonBasic Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter. It worked!

Shipping was super quick! I removed the product from the box plugged it in and it was good to go. I wish I did more research and compared prices to similar adapters. I was able to find identical adapters for cheaper, when I actually searched. If you are one of those who care about aesthetics, the product is clean cut and the wire feels like quality. While black cables are generally more favorable, it’s only available in white. Other than that, the product works as described!

Pros:
– Shipping was super quick
– Simple plug and play
– Cable seems of high-quality
Cons:
– Only available in white
– Price could be reduced
– Cord adapter is short (Roughly 6”)
– AmazonBasics logo

Made My Holiday Spook ta cular

I bought a projector from Amazon a couple of years ago but seemed to have issues connecting it to my MacBook because it didn’t have a HDMI port. I connected this to my MacBook and VOILA! I was able to use my projector to play my ATMOST digital Halloween discs and was able to watch them as a mini show on the downstairs wall with my family. It’s easy to connect. There’s a port in the side of the MacBook that fits it perfectly. The audio is AMAZING! You feel like your at a movie theatre. It had surround sound quality. And the quality of the projections was crystal sharp. I didn’t even need the projection paper. I’m glad I found this fix online. This was definitely a good purchase. There was only one downside, even though the discs worked I found that projecting other things from the MacBook’s screen itself did not work. However, I was satisfied with the purchase!

Conclusion

In conclusion, The Amazon Basics Mini DisplayPort Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter is the best adapter for connecting to your iMac, MacBook, or MacBook Air. It easily connects to your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air via Thunderbolt port. It connects reliably to the latest MacBook Pro models and MacBook Air (late 2015 and newer). It connects smoothly with your iMac and any other monitor. This adapter is not compatible with use with a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air equipped with an LED-backlit display.
