Facts About Amazon Basics RJ45 Cat-6 Ethernet Patch Internet Cable – 5 Foot (1.5 Meters)
Those other answers are idiotic.
Cat 7 is not a real IEEE recognized ethernet standard. … Those other answers are idiotic.
Cat 7 is not a real IEEE recognized ethernet standard.
It’s also a lot older than most think and is not actually newer than cat6 or cat6A.
Cat5E is rated for short-ranged NBASE-T multigigabit (2.5 and 5). Not rated, but some people have success with very short range 10GbE. Don’t count on it.
Cat6 is rated for 10GbE up to 55m.
Cat6A is rated for 10GbE up to 100m (which is the maximum length of *regular* base-t speeds, there are some long-distance specs out there that honestly are probably better served with fiber)
Cat8 is rated for 25 or 40GbE (per the standard, though I can’t say I’ve ever seen any equipment for it, and I SELL cisco gear)
Limit to cat-6 is 55 meters and anything up to 100 meters use cat-6 a
I’ve gotten solid 10Gbps on cat 5e, just depends on length and environment
Used mine from my router to LG OLED 65" UHD TV – streaming and smart features work great.
Yes…100%
it was a long while i looked my old roders and it said 10 ft or 3 meter
No. A PS4 can be used with WiFi but I recommend using the cable instead because it’s fast and better connection
yes.
No. DO not waste your money. You might as well go into a retail store and get the best for your electronic devices.
This can be used to connect any RJ45 Ethernet connection. It supports 10/100/1000mb/s. It can also support 10GB with proper equipment.
This cable will totally handle this. They are capable of handling 1000 Mbs. However, to achieve these speeds you will need your service provider providing the speed, which most can provide.
Assuming your printer has an ethernet connector (RJ45), this should work fine. Note that the printer manual suggests connecting to your router directly this way. It also says that WiFi will be disabled on the printer if you connect via an ethernet cable.
we have ethernet cables and hdmi converters from our samsung tv to our receiver (inside a cabinet). have to replace the converters ecer few years, but an hdmi head and thicker cable will not thread through the existing holes/paths in our wall studs.
No it is not. Telephone wire has a smaller(RJ-11) connector. Ethernet cable has an RJ- 45 connector which is about twice as wide.
It would depend on what kind of cable connection you have. Mine works with a standard modem – typical LAN cable.
Info About Amazon Basics RJ45 Cat-6 Ethernet Patch Internet Cable – 5 Foot (1.5 Meters) (Reviews From Amazon)
First of all these are cables so not much that can go wrong. The cables themselves look good and feel well built.
With Amazon being a leader of data centers, you would thing they would design the perfect network cable, unfortunately there is an annoying design flaw.
The jacks are surrounded by a thick rubber which makes it hard to squeeze them into tight spaces. You can force them, but they start to lean and I was concerned that this would damage the ports on my router.
The fix is pretty simple, luckily the material is rubber and not hard plastic. I took a sharp knife and was able to whittle away the excess rubber.
Now my custom modified cables fit as they should.
Check out my images, the 4 cables on the switch are modified, the one cable at the end is untouched because I had enough room there that it didn’t matter.
but you can see the difference.
I hope that Amazon addresses this issue as it’s a great product otherwise.
When other manufacturers – and retailers – are charging nearly $30 for a similar cable, you need to really evaluate why they’re doing this. I’ll give you a hint: It’s because they count on you not knowing where else to get quality cables.
I purchased this cable as a replacement for a shorter cable. The longer cable was used in a hard-to reach situation where I had to previously place an Apple TV under a TV cabinet. Not ideal, which is why this cable came to the rescue. It seems durable, but it’s also flexible as well.
Highly recommended to get your ethernet cables here and not at a big box retailer!
Stop the LAG and improve your game! Using a hardwired ethernet is scientifically proven to increase your odds of winning online games compared to relying on a wifi connection.
Here is a short breakdown of the lingo:
Ping – Ping is essentially the delay. It is a measure of time it take for the 2 computers to talk to one anther
Down Speed- The sustained amount of data that can be shared (Important when downloading)
Upload Speed – How much data you can ‘push’ (think streaming. This is important when you’re publishing)
While Gaming on a PS4, Xbox One, Or PC you’re going to want the lowest Ping Possible. Use the shortest cable possible from your modem to your device. There are several websites that can measure all 3 of these. I have a brand new Mesh network 10ft away and by switching to this cable my Ping dropped from over 200ms down to 37ms (in image) & 24ms later that night. This doesn’t sound like lot, but that’s 1/5th of a second which can mean a lot when you’re in a firefight.
Update 7/4/2022: Our household has since purchased two more of these cables to use with our Reolink Security System cameras. These ethernet cables are our favorite ones because they have flawless, fast performance at an affordable price.
Original Review:
Our household loves Amazon Basics products especially when it comes to electrical cords and cables. They are more affordable than other brands but the quality is still as high as cables that cost twice the price. We needed an ethernet cable to connect my laptop to our router, we got an Amazon Basics cable.
This Amazon Basics Ethernet Patch Cable is a Cat-6 Ethernet Cable. Cat-6 Ethernet Cables are capable of transmitting data up to 1,000 Mbps or 1 Gigabit per second. Compare that to Cat-5 Ethernet Cables which 100 Mbps per second.
This cable is 50 feet in length and is black in color with clear connectors. The connectors themselves have gold plating which ensures accurate data transfers and prevents corrosion.
The connection with this Amazon Basics Ethernet Patch Cable has been flawless. The connection does not drop off like it used to when we had a Cat-5 Ethernet Cable. The Internet runs a lot smoother and faster on my laptop now that I am using a Cat-6 Ethernet Cable.
There is an error in the Amazon product description. Where it says “In The Box” it lists this cable as a 5 pack. It is in fact not a 5 pack of cables but a single Cat-6 Ethernet Cable that is 50 feet in length. Just keep that in mind when you are considering purchasing this cable.
I have been completely satisfied with the Internet connection to my laptop while using this Amazon Basics Ethernet Patch Cable. I would definitely buy more Amazon Basics cables in the future should a need arise for another cable.
So I’ve prob had the same ethernet cord for the last 10 years lol and I started having problems with my game lagging really badly.. I always had lag problems cuz at&t internet sucks sorry not sorry. Anyways my dad knows a lot more about computers than I do and he brought up the eth cord. I wouldn’t of even thought about it if he didn’t bring it up lol. My internet still sucks with AT&T even tho the box is literally right next 2 my pc and plugged directly in my pc! I will say that I’m happy I got this new eth cord though because I instantly noticed my game running better than usual. I checked my internet speed and it’s better then it used 2 be with the 10+ year old cord I’ve been using 😂 so I recommend this product highly and this brand! My dad says it’s the only brand he buys. Also the 10 foot cord for what 7 bucks?? I got a steal with prime day but I still think it’s only a cpl dollars more not on sale so still worth it! If I wasn’t moving soon I would have bought the 50 foot cord that was on sale for 11 bucks! But now that I know this is a good cord that works well and feels really durable I’ll definitely be buying a couple more when I’m moved!!
I can’t believe how awesome these cables are. I plugged them between my Xbox and Cisco data center switch, which is uplinked to my cable modem, and my upload speed on Spectrum went from their garbage 10 Mbit/sec rate to 100 Gbit/sec; four orders of magnitude increase, just from a cable!!
No, unfortunately not really. I do have actual data center network equipment at home as I work in that industry, but being in a Spectrum monopoly area, I’m stuck with their ridiculously horrible service. I needed a one-off 50 foot cable quickly so of course Amazon next day was the way to go. These cables are surprisingly flexible for CAT6, as normally CAT6 have a fairly rigid plastic separator running down the middle to keep the four pairs of wire in a specific configuration. I haven’t cut one open to see if it’s actually there but assume it is. The only minor complaint, as other reviews have pointed out, is that the tangle free boot on the connector can be a bit large. The purpose of those boots is to allow yanking the cable out through a big mess of wires that most wiring closets end up having, so if you don’t really care about catching and breaking the RJ45 latch off, or you keep a clean wiring plant, it’s all of one swipe with a box cutter away from being removed.
Used this to hook up my security cameras to my router. The camera DVR is in my office and the router is closer to the living room so I went with a cord. This is a great price for this cable and works great for my uses (6 camera system with night vision). Forgoes any chance of signal strength interfering with the ability to remotely view my security system when I’m out of town or at work.
Not sure how this could be bad, its a pretty simple product. Definitely something I could care less about the manufacturer. Does its job and shuts up about it. Works for me.
I’ve only had this for half a day but it’s a cable, so it will either work or it won’t.
When I initially plugged this in I was getting mixed results. Speed was only 100 Mbps instead of the 200 Mbps I was getting before with a shorter cat5 patch cable. Pages would also take a little longer to load, sometimes failing to load, and Windows 10 showed “Local Area Connection” and “No Internet” despite being connected. After one reboot I didn’t have any ethernet light on my port and fiddled with the cord until it lit back up.
At this point I was worried. First thought was to blame the cable but was curious about other possibilities and considered maybe the port was dying, or something similar. It was still working for the other cable so dying was out. It was a long shot but I decided to update the LAN driver for my board (MSI B350M Gaming Pro). After a reboot I not only had my ethernet light back on but it had turned from green to amber (indicating an increase from a 100 Mbps connection to 1 Gbps).
I have since browsed the web, opened a game, and done speed tests and things are looking solid. I *did* use a knife to trim back some of the black cover to make the plastic more exposed but I’m not sure it was needed, it was simply one of my earlier troubleshooting attempts. It was very easy though as it’s not as hard of a rubber as it appears and once you get the slices in it’s somewhat easy to pull off.
I work from home and this ethernet cord works amazingly on my computer. I am comparing it to the cord that was provided by my job. Their cord was causing the internet to run slow and a lot of buffering. I purchased this cord with the recommendation from one of my supervisors that says she bought it from amazon before and it works awesome So I brought the ethernet cord and my internet speed hasn’t slowed down or had any buffering issues. I also was able to move my desk to the other side of the apartment and the cord was long enough to reach. Also, it is a thick cord I can run it under the carpet so it is not tripped over or yanked. I would buy it again or recommend it is worth the money I paid and the quality.
Tech is always evolving but I never change out my cables to make sure I can handle the newest wave of changes. These are a solid option that can help you handle some better internet speeds and quality. Amazon always has the best price on this type of stuff and it has never failed me. I think I might be powering my entire entertainment setup but Amazon cords, who knows. I had some lag issues with the previous cords that seems to have gone away now. Can’t necessarily pinpoint it to these but I definitely didn’t hurt to go ahead and upgrade
