This unexpected behavior has been reported by Cora:
“No animated covers for me either in Apple Music!”
We’ve found similar complaints on Reddit (1 and 2).
Important: First of all, be aware that not albums support this feature, so don’t expect the Now Playing screen to animate every time!
However, if you know that a song is covered and the art is not animating on your device, proceed to the next section.
How To Fix Apple Music Animated Covers Not Working
You’re most likely not dealing with an iOS 17 bug, but with a hidden setting on your device that’s preventing the full-screen animated cover from playing on the Now Playing screen. So please check the following:
1. Exit Low Power Mode
If your iPhone runs in the power saving mode, the Apple Music album covers won’t animate to avoid unnecessary battery drainage.
Tip: Swipe-down from the top-right corner of the screen to bring up the Control Center and turn off Low Power Mode!
2. Turn Off Reduce Motion
If you’ve set up your device to minimize effects the animated covers won’t work either. Proceed as follows:
- Open Settings and scroll for Accessibility.
- Go for Motion.
- Disable Reduce Motion.
3. Turn Off Increased Contrast
Another Accessibility option can also cause Apple Music animated covers not to work. It’s called Increased Contrast and is available in Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size. Switch it off!
Tip: To disable Increase Contrast only for Apple Music go for:
- Settings -> Accessibility -> Per-App Settings.
- Add Music.
- Tweak Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion accordingly.
