What is this chip about?

1. To try to make you buy Brother cartridges, when you may be perfectly happy with lower print quality for half the price with refilled ones (some of which are great, some not, they need to empty the waste-toner chamber or it will leak). Raises the price of refills by requiring 3rd party R&D to clone the chip.

How long does the toner last in terms of time for someone that prints rarely? Will the toner dry out or become unusable in some way after some time?

Toner is not the same thing as ink, and it cannot dry out. It is actually a finely powdered wax. Laser printers generate a static electricity charge on the paper that causes toner to stick to it. They then run the paper through a hot roller called the fuser that melts it permanently into the paper.

As for the lifespan of the cartridge, you must refer to the advertised page yield. The TN-760 is rated for 3,000 pages, which is an approximated average you can expect. If you keep your printer and its cartridges in a cool air conditioned environment and never allow them to be exposed to high temperatures or humidity, then it should last many years. Temperatures over 100 degrees in particular can drastically reduce the life of the toner because it is made of wax.

Where can i find the manufacure date of this toner?

There is no date on the toner but the toner does have a shelf life of 2 years from the time the protective bag is opened.

The Brother TN760 is not compatible with the MFC7840W machine.

I bought this in advance of my printer running out. The printer will not accept it. I’ve reinstalled it several times and it’s a no go. Now what? $75

My Brother printer rejected the first two replacement cartridges I bought. The first was a "compatible" TN-760. The printer wouldn’t accept it. I then bought a genuine Brother TN-760. I then bought a genuine Brother TN-760. It was also not accepted. I called Brother to report a problem with the printer, and they sent me a new cartridge. That one (the third new cartridge) worked. The problem seems to be that the printer has a sensor to force you to buy Brother’s $78 cartridge, and the sensor often fails to recognize a genuine Brother cartridge.

No, this toner will not work with the HL-5470DW printer.

The box on the item i received does not have a sticker with a hologram, number, and qr code. does that mean that the item i received is counterfeit?

I don’t think that any company makes a counterfeit Brother toner. Never seen one in my life and I have been in the business for a few decades. Brother toners a just too inexpensive to bother making counterfeit ones.

Info About Brother Genuine Cartridge TN760 High Yield Black Toner,1 Pack (Reviews From Amazon)

Works well, excellent quality, page count is based on 5% coverage

Good quality toner that works reliably. It’s more expensive than the generic toner cartridges, but it’s worth it since these don’t leak, streak, or otherwise fail in use.

Keep in mind that the claimed 3,000 page life is based on a 5% print density per page. That’s not a lot of print on the page, so it’s not uncommon to get less than 3,000 pages before this runs out. But the 5% standard is what most toner manufacturers use to come up with a page count, so Brother is not unique in claiming a higher page count than you would get in normal use (I imagine not many people only cover 5% of the page with print).

To help extend the life of the toner, use the toner save mode on the printer. Plus, change the setting so that the printer does NOT stop working when the toner is low. You can often get quite a few usable pages out of the printer with a low toner level. Instructions on how to change those settings vary based on the printer model, so check the manual online at the Brother site if you’re not sure how to do it.

Easy to install, and has a long shelf life (provided you keep it at room temp and sealed in a box) so you can keep one on hand for when it’s needed.

Works perfectly. Other reviewers need to research what density they are printing at.

For ANY printer, you can choose how much liquid you want to be printed on each paper. Brother and EVERY other printing brand base their “3000 pages” or “1200 pages” estimate at 5%. It doesn’t look nearly as pretty as 10% but for those like me that do not care as much for printing quality, 5% is fine. I get about 2,500 pages printed on average for a “3000” page estimate. If you go higher with quality, you will obviously have far fewer pages. You can Google how to lower / increase this setting because it depends on whether you have a Mac or Windows.

A necessary evil…

I wish toner was not so expensive. That being said, I’ve never had issues with brother toner and I recommend getting the high yield or super high yield toner because they yield more than double the normal toner and less than double the price. High yield is about 2.5x more yield than the normal toner and Super High Yield is about 3.75x more yield than the normal on. Since amazon prices change a lot with demand, always double check to make sure you are saving money with a high or super high yield vs a standard toner cartridge.

Worth going with the original

I bought a brothers laser printer and after a few months the starter toner was used up. So after looking for a replacement I I ultimately went with the manufacturer’s toner. Yeah there are plenty of cheeper alternatives. But the reviews were pretty mixed. This toner clams 3000 pages. I’m not there yet so I can’t speak to that. Though even if I only get 2000. It’s still only about .10¢ of ink per print.
It arrived on time and I put it in the next day only to find it made one heck of a racket and wouldn’t work. Wasn’t happy with that after dropping $80 some bucks on it. So I called customer service. To my delight they we’re actually helpful. Way better then most I have called. Any way they walked me through a few steps and it did actually print. Just very loud. Enough for the young lady I was talking to on the phone to hear and know something wasn’t right. And for what it’s worth even the defective toner cartridge had really good quality. They sent me a replacement and it is installed and working perfectly. Yeah I could have took my chances with a cheeper alternative. But when you break down the cost. And figure in the fact that your dealing with an established and reputable company that’s ready to help when needed. Yeah. I’ll stick with the Brothers toner. I haven’t tried the other ones but I’m pretty sure we all know you get what you pay for. And I will gladly pay for this toner again and have no problem recommending it.

Good quality and be aware of the claimed 3,000 pages life

Overall I satisfied with the transaction.

Excellent Printing, Long Life

This is my second Brother monochrome printer, and just like the last one, I’m getting more than what I expect from it. The print quality is excellent, and the life is longer than anticipated.

I don’t count the pages, so I can’t swear to the promised page count. I print mostly manuscripts–lots of words on a page, and not many pictures. But I also teach a class, so I print handouts and note views of my presentations. And I print the occasional article from an on-line source, with graphics as well. But mostly words. So I get a LOT of documents that way. If you print solid ink on a page, you’ll get significantly fewer pages, but you will learn what you can expect.

And based on past usage, I know how often I run out of toner in a cartridge (YMMV). And these genuine Brother cartridges have always delivered on clear, crisp printing and long life. I would never settle for anything less.

Fast delivery, works as it should.

These cartridges last a long time. For all the ppl who are complaining about setting up the printer you must not have much computer smarts. The old cartridge slides out easy and the new one goes in easy. Had zero problems. The great part was the order cake in one day which I couldn’t believe. Ordered it one night and camas in the next day. I’m sure this won’t be the case for everyone because of location but wow, that was quick! Brothers does charge a pretty penny for these but up to 3000 pages should last us a while. The demo cartridge that came with the printer lasted around 3 to 4 months. Much better than the old ink printer we had. No more drying inch in just a couple of weeks. Invest in a laser printer. Note, this is only black, no color. So if your using it for business purposes as we are it does great. Also work well for our daughter in college to print things and to make small test for our 2nd grader.

Not cheap but it’s OEM – No Issues

I burned through the low capacity toner cartridge that came new with the printer and shopped around for a replacement. I opted to stick with Brother because of some compatibility issues with other brands and it wasn’t worth my time to try and troubleshoot the installation if they didn’t work out of the box. I got the high capacity cartridge this time around and will advise how that holds up. Brother will recycle the old cartridge for free. One caveat is that the printer software will start whining about replacing the cartridge several weeks before you actually need it. I ran mine until the print quality began to suffer, and I was able to get quite a few more prints out of it by taking the toner cartridge out and shaking it, like we used to on the old Xerox machines.

Great and Long Lasting

I had used the same Brother Laser Printer in my business for almost 8 years. I just replaced it with the same updated Brother model and continued buying these cartridges. Cannot find a better printer, scanner, copier than Brother. These ink cartridges (high yield) last a really long time and the print quality is great. Easy to replace, too. The basic cartridge (like the one that came with the printer) doesn’t last very long. Buy the high yield.
