Facts About Echo Dot (4th Gen) Kids | Designed for kids, with parental controls | Tiger

Can you use this without parental controls? It would look really cute on my desk.

Yes! You should be able to change things under Manage Devices to turn off/turn back on Amazon Free Time. I change this on my various echo dots depending on where i move them in the house, if they’re in a parent space or child space. (We have 2 kids echo dots and about 4 non kids one plus a talking thermostat).

Does anyone have ggmm battery base?

I have ggmm d4 battery to work with my echo dot 4. I hate having Echo dot plugged in. GGMM solves this issue! I use the ggmm d4 battery base to carry my Echo dot from room to room.

Does the kids addition work with a smart hub ? To turn light off/on.

It depends on the light. We have a plug in our bedroom that has an Alexa skill available and didn’t require going through our hub.

Will you be able to turn off the kids function? I’m an adult and these are adorable.

I never do it, so still keep kids function

Can it tell you the weather

Just ask, "Alexa what is the weather?" or "Alexa what is today’s (tomorrow’s) forecast?"

Can it be used as a regular bluetooth speaker not having to open the alexa app?

No

Can we turn off lights with this echo dot? my kid really wants this feature! we don’t have any other echo devices? how do i set this up?

Yes, if you have a device with alexa it will work.
To ser up you download the alexa app and follow the instructions, it’s pretty easy

Do you have any other options other than a panda or a tiger? A solid color one, perhaps?

Some of the previous echo devices had the option to switch covers. This one looks like it might be an option down the line. We will have to wait and see. If you are feeling lucky and adventurous you could try taking the cover off and painting it. We will have to wait and see. If you are feeling lucky and adventurous you could try taking the cover off and painting it. Though I would buy the cheaper/adult version since you are making the product non-returnable once you paint it.

We’ve been trying to play disney music and it can’t find any how do we add it? Not seeing it in parent controls

You would have to download the Alexa app on your phone and see if it works from there. My child has his own profile to play Disney songs just say Alexa play Disney soundtracks. If that doesn’t work call the customer care number they could guide you through it.

Can this device access spotify?

Yes as long as you attach your account to the echo/Alexa app via linked Skill

When my kids get older can it he converted to a regular echo dot?

It’s the same exact as an Echo Dot. It just looks like a cute animal on the outside. You can turn off FreeTime to access more musical content that are not necessarily kid friendly.

Can this be set up to be used like a regular dot?

Yes. It is the Dot replacement. The only downside to the new round Echo is the mounting options so far are limited.

Can this be linked to her tablet so she can ask it to play her favorite shows ?

It works with the fire stick so I would imagine if you have a fire tablet it would work the same. I’m not 100% sure of that.

I have a amazon kids tablet, but my son needs spanish language, so what funtions he lose with this setup (amazon kids + echo kids)?

Alexa on this one has Spanish. It started out with Spanish before we could get it to English.

Tiene Alexa

Info About Echo Dot (4th Gen) Kids | Designed for kids, with parental controls | Tiger (Reviews From Amazon)

Worth it if you have Fire Tablets and want the free year of Amazon Kids+

The Echo Dot 4th Generation Kids Edition is a regular Echo Dot 4th Gen with a Tiger or Panda Face pattern on the fabric shell, and one free included year of Amazon Kids+ ( formerly known as FreeTime Unlimited) Currently the Kids+ subscription regularly costs $70 annually for the family plan, which allows the use of up to four Kid accounts. Here are my thoughts so far:

THE GOOD

-Kids+ value. Amazon Kids+ is pretty nice to have, but only if you have Amazon tablets. Kids+ includes many cool games, apps and books designed for children. There are also many parental control features that allow you to restrict access to certain content or set viewing limits. These features have been great when using tablets, but there is very limited use if you don’t have an Amazon Fire tablet device. With just this Dot, Kids+ can still read various stories out loud; but there isn’t much point to have Kids+ unless you also have a screen (tablet) to play games and watch shows. If you DO have a Fire tablet, then this Dot is probably worth it because Kids+ currently costs $70 a year, which is more than the price of this Dot; and you can use Kids+ on all of your Fire tablets too.

-Sound. The speaker position on this 4th Gen Kids Edition Dot is better than on previous Kids Dots, and to me music sounds a bit better than previous generations.

THE BAD

-Cost. At $60, this is considerably more expensive than some other options. The previous generation (Gen 3) regular Dot ( not Kids edition), is only $19 at the moment; and if you don’t need Kids+, it can really do just about everything that this can. The speaker might sound slightly inferior, but not enough to warrant this big of a difference in price.

In conclusion, this new 4th Gen Kids Edition Dot is ONLY really worth it if you ALSO have Fire tablets, and you want to make use of the free year of Amazon Kids+. If you don’t have tablets, or don’t want to use Kids+, then you are better off going with a cheaper Echo Dot or Echo Flex option.

My boyfriend boughtit for me

The media could not be loaded.  To be honest I’m a grown women and I know this is a kids echo dot 4GEN but I love pandas 🤍🖤🤍🖤 I still have my inner child and my favorite colors are black and white and I love pandas for there color and how fluffy they are and i find them to be harmony to me. so my boyfriend got me this deal the echo glow and echo dot 4GEN panda on prime day he got it on sale and had a coupon so it came out so cheap. Either way it arrived well it was a really easy set up on the Amazon Alexa app in the app it gave me a option to sign up for Amazon freeTime unlimited and it walks you through step by step but I exit on X on top and disabled freeTime on Amazon Alexa app so it works like a regular echo dot 4Gen, I have my panda echo dot 4Gen in my desk in my room looks so cute sounds is nice and Alex is clearer when she replies. I use Amazon music on it or pandora music and I use different skills works well .So far I love my echo dot 4Gen i haven’t had any problems right now im listen to music as I write this review also using the Bluetooth on it to play YouTube music and when I tell Alexa to skip it works so far I’m happy. Any dislikes not yet. I put a video up and my voices sounds awkward not good making videos hope this helps you all out.

Need separate parental controls for separate devices

I just got this for my kid, off the top the first snag I hit is FreeTime parental controls span across all the devices. So if I enabled it to be unavailable until end of school day so my kid can’t use her tablet till then, that translated to not being able to use the echo until then either, which is a bummer as I want the use of alarms and drop ins all day long. So still trying to figure a solution for that. The sound is good, not great compared to other higher end echos, it has volume though!
The one year FreeTime included makes it a good economical option even though it’s pricier than the old echo for kids, it’s cuter. However, factor in the possibility of needing to shell out for a music (or family music) subscription.
Voice recognition is pretty good, I had to actually separate a nearby Alexa device as they were getting triggered by each other’s commands.
I should say my main concern prior to buying was my kids privacy so I am glad for the manual microphone off button.

Happy Tiger boy!

My older son loves tigers and when I saw I could upgrade hid echo Dot to a tiger it was a no-brainer!

So far so good. The voice recognition is good and the voice interface is easy to use. Note that the plug for this fourth generation echo Dot is different. The power cord and plug came as one unit. The part that plugs into the dot itself is a round cylinder, not the flat cables it used to be. It’s a bit of a wall wart but we have a power strip so I just stuck it on the end.

My son is super happy especially since it’s a tiger. I love that for the kids edition they offer cartoony faces like this now.

Its a typical echo with a cute design. Kids like it

we like it so far, BUT I’m a little frustrated the parental controls aren’t very user friendly. We have explicit songs filtered it still played songs I didn’t think were appropriate content for my kids to have on. I still haven’t figured out any other music controls other then that. Also haven’t been able to get it to read stories. I’m going to try again tonight on that though. My kids love it though and think the tiger is awesome. They like to mimic me and play thunderstorm sounds at bedtime

Perfect for an Adult Desk – Can Remove Kid Restrictions Easily

The media could not be loaded.  I’m an adult, and I bought this Tiger Echo Dot (sphere) for my own use. I think it is just SO cute. My primary need was to have an easy to use speakerphone on my desk so that when people called, or I had to call someone, I could keep working and typing while maintaining the phone conversation. Sure, I could have bought an actual speakerphone unit. But this is so so much better.

I’ve loaded in an unboxing video to show how it comes packaged, and how it starts up. It was incredibly easy to install and also quite easy to set up for ‘adult use’ without the children restrictions. I have it set to turn on the office lights, the living room lights, and so on. I can easily check the weather or add items to a to-do list. It plays music and I even enjoy the daily Jeopardy trivia game.

For me, the most important use is the speakerphone. I can call any phone out there and have long, crystal-clear conversations while I do my work. For someone to call me, they need to use the Alexa app to call in to my tiger. I’m fine with that. If someone really wants to chat for a while, they can message me so that I initiate the call to them.

I’ll note that some people complain about the ‘not perfect’ audio quality. I’m not sure what someone expects from a tiny plastic sphere. I have Harman Kardon speakers on my desk. If I really want stellar classical music, I’ll play through those. But if I just want something poppy in the background while I work? The tiger is absolutely perfect for that.

Ask with any questions – I’m quite pleased!

it’s adorable, okay? I don’t care if I am 34 years old.

With the onslaught of bluetooth speakers coming from both Google, Amazon, and other big named companies which are all competing for the smart home conversion, this can be overwhelming to choose. Like, really, what’s best for your ears, your family and company?
Alexa, that’s who. But, I’m a biased fan boy. So remember that.
For my smart home I chose Amazon as my primary converter. Fire stick, blink security, Echo Hub, the echo show for face calls, Kindle, Tablet, Echo Buds and works with smart bulbs. There isn’t much of anything that the Echo Development teams haven’t thought of. This device was the first step in making my house a smart home, though, even though I didn’t think about it at first.

Portable speakers (with wifi), calculator, someone to tell your dad jokes, or just make fart noises, this device has it with Alexa. With customization to wake words (Computer, Alexa, Echo, etc) and pairing of multiple dots to an Echo hub in a multiroom can provide for some amazing surround sound. Seriously.

Alexa is kind of like the middle man of making your home smart. She acts as the computer, and communicator to you and your home. I use my Echo Dot every day, playing music all the time. For individual listening, I would recommend Echo Buds for that private concert.
I would recommend volume level 3 or 4 for a medium sound. For a party, you may need an two Echo Dots and a Hub for a large room. 1 and 2 settings are perfect for a meditating experience, or just soft background noise depending on what your listening too.

Amazon’s music library has literally 20,000,000 songs to choose from; and ad free with 3d audio for those interested in Amazon Unlimited and HD. That’s essential to ANYONE who loves listening to music all day, every day. Not to mention, if you don’t wanna use Amazon HD, or Amazon in general, you are still able to set up Spotify as you’re primary library/archive of music. That way, you don’t have to start all over by liking, disliking and setting up new playlists for your road trips or work out sessions.

5/5 for awesome sound
5/5 voice recognition
5/5 easy installation
5/5 smart home device.
4th generation Echo Dot really blasts the hell out of all previous models, including sound output, style and variance in both Child and Adult, with variety in colors.

Con:
Cable could use a different color other than black or white, because this would allow “what cable goes to what.” Otherwise, this is a really small complaint comparing to what you’re really getting.
This device will not pair with adult/regular 4th generation echo dots.

Great for kids & anyone!!

Love this Panda Echo Dot for Kids. Super easy to use. The kids version is nice because if they tell it to play a song that is really not appropriate for them..then Alexa will tell them “Sorry, I can’t play you this song because it contains explicit material.” This also is educational. They can ask any math problems, solar system questions, history, literally anything you would Google. It will read bedtime stories, tell jokes, can be used as an alarm clock to wake them before school and be used as an intetcom!! So, if you have a main Echo/Alexa type system within the home, you could use it to talk to your child in the other room, upstairs/downstairs, tell them to get out of bed and come to breakfast for school or whatever works for you..I thought that was a really cool feature. We love keeping music going in the home all the time, so it’s been a mood lifter here.

It’s for kids…. Seriously

I bought this for my 15 year old daughter. She was upset at some point just for it bring in the kids range. But after 2/3 days.. she loved this ball of informational happiness. It’s attached to her hand literally.. Bathroom, Kitchen,Dining room.. the alarm is beautiful, the most important reason I bought this version. She’s has plenty of alarms but none she can talk back to and hear a cartoon character. Did I mention it knows her voice.. It’s very cute. And considering we’re in Ohio and the lil tiger is a perfect Bengal theme.
5 stars from this happy Momma. My daughter is very much asking questions and hearing jokes, perfect birthday gift.

9 year old loves it…maybe too much?

She constantly interacts with this! She loves the animal face on it and considers Alexa her pet.
She asks it a ton of questions all throughout the day.

It puts her age appropriate music and it’s her first go to.

She puts this to good use, it’s kid size, she can work it without any assistance from us and it has tight her waaay more…

A great child friendly gift.
