Info About Garmin Mini Suction Cup Mount for Speak, Plus, Dash Cam 45, 55 and 65W, 010-12530-05 (Reviews From Amazon)
I’m not sure why it’s not listed as being compatible with the Dash Cam Mini, but it absolutely is. Maybe Garmin didn’t list it as compatible so that you would buy more Low Profile Adhesion Mounts (the ones that only work with the Dash Cam Mini), I don’t know – but the two of these products work great together, as you can see in the photo I’ve attached (and no, the suction cup mount doesn’t obstruct the camera’s lens in any way during video). Suction is amazingly strong, and the mount is incredibly small. VERY happy with this mount!
I waited a bit to review this suction cup because I wanted to see how it performed in the hot weather. Being in FL, it is hard to find something that can withstand the heat and humidty we have here and actually have it stay stuck to a windshield or dash. SO FAR SO GOOD!! I’ve had this hanging in my window for a little over a month now and it has never come undone. I love how discreet it is and the fact that it doesn’t block much of the windshield. The suction cup is strong and also has a swivel if you need to adjust the way your camera is facing. It is small enough to fit into your pocket if you needed to carry it around and very easy to install!
The media could not be loaded. Honestly, this should come standard with the dash cam and not the sticky adhesive i’ve been dealing with falling nonstop when my car gets too hot.
It has really great suction, a great clamp for extra security. It also rotated around in a circle to angle it whatever direction you need it to be angled. Pretty great! I should’ve bought this when I first bought my cam. This should automatically come with every Garmin Dash Cam. (I have window tint and don’t need adhesive sticking to my tint and pulling it back/ruining it so i’ve been trying to stick the old mount to my cars internal camera system behind the mirror and it constantly falls down. This is a great fix to my problem!!)
Update (3/21/22): I’ve noticed if my car windshield gets really hot, the suction will lose its grip and fall. Not sure if the suction has lost its powerful grip over time, or if it’s simply from the heat, but it ONLY does this when the windshield gets really hot. Other than that, it stays up longer and still works better than the adhesive!!
As you can see from the photo, it’s a little dark but it does work with the Garmin Mini 2 Dash Cam. I have seen a lot of people saying it doesn’t, and that it enters the frame, but that isn’t the case for me. You just have to position the camera so the mount is out of the field of view. For some windshields that are at a more vertical angle, you might get the mount in the shot, but in my Camry it works great. A little expensive for a tiny suction cup, but it’ll be worth it if it holds. Have seen some reviewers mention that it falls off so we’ll see. I’ll update if it doesn’t stay.
Really wish Garmin put this mount in with the road cams instead of the adhesive magnet mount, especially if you want to be able to easily take the camera down for security or use it in a different car.
It’s top notch. The weather has been generally cold since I got it, even arctic temperatures, and the suction cup has been firm and solid.
Works better than the little suction mounts that come in box with Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. I am glad I ordered this. It really makes the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 easier to use or mount in a different location.
My only complaint about the Garmin55 was the magnetic mount that comes with it.
The magnetic unit is absolutely brilliant if you only ever want to use it on a single vehicle.
I travel a lot and hire vehicles, so a portable Dash cam mount was important to me.
I actually ended up making my own suction cup mount out of a cellphone mount – but at last Garmin have made one specifically for the Garmin 55.
I also use my Dash cam to record 4WD trips, so good adhesion to the glass was very important. The only time this new suction unit has given way was on a rainy and foggy trip and I had to move the mount so it aligned with the wipers better – and I was trying to get it to stick to a damp and dirty surface. A wipe with a wet, then dry cloth solved the problem and it remained attached for the remainder of the trip.
The suction unit is only marginally larger than the original magnetic unit – so very pleased that the entire unit is still very small.
My ONLY reservation is how many times I can swap from the suction unit back to the original magnetic unit before the clamping unit on the camera becomes loose and starts to allow the camera to slump or go out of alignment – but, so far so good.
I bought a Garmin DashCam 46 a while back, and I love the camera. The only drawback is that the mount it comes with is a magnetic mount that requires you to glue part of the mount to your windshield. The camera then sticks to the mount magnetically. This is great if you never plan on taking the camera from one vehicle to the next. I’m a truck driver who regularly drives different vehicles, and I want to take my camera with me. I can’t do that with the other half of the mount glued to my car windshield. You need this suction cup mount if you plan on ever taking your camera out of one vehicle and into another.
I purchased a Rexing camera and suction cup for my vehicles, yet the rubber type stuff was too cold and hard to stick any time at all.
Since then the Apeman Camera has come back as Available, so I purchased this with the intent of getting a Garmin Mini, so ordered the suction cup FIRST to check the quality of the suction cup. Seems good, so will purchase the Mini soon.
Unit is small like camera and suction is much better than others I have used for camera mount. Some of the other mounts are bigger than the cameras and it looks stupid. This is the right one and you will be glad you got it. Does seem to cost more but worth it because it goes with product much better than others. Fits most garmin dash cams nicely.
