What’s in the Box Dashboard mount, arm attachment, and owner’s manual

Facts About Garmin Portable Friction Mount – Frustration Free Packaging

Mine worked great for a while, but now it lost its friction and slides everywhere. Is there any way to make it sticky again?

Use a sticky cell phone gel pad. They cost about $5 and will keep your mount from sliding even in quick turns and hard braking. I bought one years ago and it is still working well. I always put my Garmin on the floor out of sight when parking it gets dirty but the gel pad on the dash works well anyway.

Can I use with Garmin drive 61?

Yes, this is compatible with a Garmin Drive 61.

can i use this with a garmin dash cam 35

I don’t have a dash cam so I’m not sure, sorry. I use it with the Garmin GPS and it’s great for that.

Will this garmin friciton mount accommodate the garmin drivesmart™ 70lmt?

No, this mount is not compatible with the Garmin DriveSmart 70LMT.

Does this have a rubber bottom or smooth cloth like one? The one I have now falls off every sharp turn. Not enough friction

Mine does not move or slip off dash during sudden turns. Not sure what’s inside the material to keep it weighted down; material is a sturdy nylon (smooth bottom). I would purchase this item again…very pleased with it.

will this work with a 5Inch LM Garmin

Yes it will. Works for 4-5-6-7 inch Garmin GPS

what is this use for?

This replaces the windshield mount on the Garmin. The post fits into the cradle on the back of the Garmin and you can place this without slippage on the dash or the console.

The first time i used it, it slid off the dash of my "new" 2015 mazda mx-5. maybe the previous owner used armor all on the dash. any ideas?

Interesting, I’m using the Friction mount on a 2016 Chevy Trax and 2018 Chevy Cruz. The surfaces are original i.e. I haven’t used any cleaners on either. The dash is fairly wide and the mount is about 1/2 back and fairly horizontal with a slight slop down. I haven’t had any problem with it sliding off. Considering the laws of physics and not casting any disparaging factors, could the rate of acceleration be an issue?

I need a phone holder that works with this base, what is available. My phone is large and need a clamp that is more than 3.4" wide.

The base is certainly heavy and study enough to hold a phone. The bean bag bottom is flexible and will conform to most dashboards. The only additional part you will need to buy is a mount for your phone that will allow it to snap on to this base. Many are available on Amazon.

Please describe the material on the bottom (which contacts the dash)?

Same material as the top, however the weight holds it in place pretty nicely. If you hit a huge rut, it will slide off the dash, but it does a decent job of staying put with the distributed weight in it.

Do i have to have this mount? i did not order with my garmin gps

Your Garmin should come with a bracket to stick on your windshield or dash. This friction mount is nice if you only want to use your Garmin now and then. It’s also nice to pull it off the dash so you can enter the information into the Garmin.

Is this going to work with nuvi 2598lmt?

This mount is compatible with most Garmin GPS units, including my two older Garmin units. I’m pretty sure that it will work with the 2598lmt.

Does this work well in a Town and Country mini-van?

Yes. I have used it in all my vehicles and we often rent Chrysler Town and Country’s. You just place it on your dashboard. It is like a heavy bean bag and it stays wherever you place it. You can swivel the head or lock it in place.

Does this work with a nuvi 2599

It should, I mean I think that all Nuvis have the same type of mount so I don’t know why it wouldn’t.

Does it fit the 2598 Garmin

It fit the garmin that I bought

Info About Garmin Portable Friction Mount – Frustration Free Packaging (Reviews From Amazon)

Should have bought this first

I have tried all other kinds of mounts for my Garmin GPS, including the suction cup and the AC vent holders but the AC vent ones block the AC airflow and the suction cup ones come loose right away. I had to remove the AC grate clips when not in use to allow the air to flow. Those clips are not easy to insert and remove and are a pain. The suction cup one always took several tries to get it to stick. I decided to give this a try and boy, am I happy I did. This sits perfectly on top of the dash of my 2006 Honda CR-V and stays put. I purposely took some corners hard and did some hard stops, acceleration, and braking and this thing didn’t budge a millimeter. When I am parked, I can simply lift this, with the GPS still attached, off the dashboard and set it on the floor in front of the seat to get it out of view. Then simply put it back up onto the dashboard and away I go. I finally found the mount that works for me.

Great alternative to suction cups, adhesives or clips

I wanted a cell phone holder for my mini van that didn’t involve suction cups (which rarely stay sucked to the glass), vent clips (which block the vent and heat up or freeze your phone), or adhesives (which just wreck your dashboard). The ball joint on this weighted base happens to fit the back of the cradle from my last failed suction cup cell phone holder! (See photo.)

The weighted base is just the right size to fit off to the side of my dashboard, so my field of vision is least obstructed. With the way I’m using it, the ball joint tilt is restricted to absolute vertical, but that’s a minor issue. After all, I’m using it outside of it’s original design. I don’t know if there’s more swivel with a Garmin. I am lucky that the cradle I attached sits just high enough off my dashboard to plug in the charging cable, but low enough that the top of my cell phone doesn’t constantly bump the windshield.

The weighted base is non-slip enough to stay in place, even with my cell phone and the holder attached, even when accelerating or braking, with no wobble. Of course, if you push it hard enough with your hand, it will move. (After all, it’s not glued to the dashboard.) I like that I can remove it and hide it easily because it’s not stuck on. My only concern is whether the non-slip material on the bottom will get dusty and not “stick” so well if I keep moving it.

I like that the neck swivels easily (allows for adjustability), but locks in place (for stability of the device).

Installation is as easy as clicking the neck onto the weighted base and putting it on your CLEAN dashboard. The hardest part is just figuring out your preferred placement, but the adjustments are easy.

My Favorite GPS Mount So Far

This thing is great. I rely on the voice assist on my GPS to help me avoid looking down while driving, but sometimes it can’t be avoided. I’ve tried many different GPS mounts with different vehicles over the years and this is by far my favorite. It is very well weighted and stays on the top of my dashboard while driving. A quick glance and I can read the GPS.

Another advantage of this is that once the mounting bar is in place, you can either lock it in place (so you would have to move the whole thing around to change the angle) or leave it unlocked and it will turn 360 degrees horizontally as needed. The mounting bar doesn’t turn without assistance so I will probably never lock it.

I have one of those dashboard compartments so if it is particularly sunny or I am on a bumpy road, I can place it in there to help shade it and keep it in place.

Bye-bye suction cup! Hello amazingness 🙂

I’ve had a Garmin for work purposes for 6 years now and have gone through several suction cups. Eventually, their life comes to an end and the GPS falls onto the dashboard, scaring the person driving and anyone in the car. I was hesistant about this purchase but it really is amazing. The mount is weighted with sand and can easily be moved to another vehicle or taken down. Best part of all, the Garmin sits securely in place as it should. Now if only we could get Garmin to start packaging these babies along with the navigation unit!

Best no suction mounting system

It really does STAY PUT. Just purchased a new Honda CR-V and did not want to use any type of suction mounting system for my 7″ Garmin. I was sceptical that this mounting type would work but gave it a shot anyway. Soo, soo glad I did.
Pros: 1. it doesn’t move no matter what type of road you are on 2. easy to move out of sight after parking vehicle 3. perfect level to look at when driving, move your eye from the road over to the Garmin. See above picture.
Cons: None

Works perfect, hasn’t moved an inch

I bought this for my garmin gps. I was having issues with the suction cup on my windshield because I couldn’t reach the gps. Someone recommend to me I get a dash mount. I was hesitant because my dash is very curvy and I thought there was no way that it would stay in place (especially since I am not the most, lets say, steady driver). Much to my surprise this hasn’t moved one inch since I put it in my vehicle. Perfect!

Truly Frustration Free Friction Mount

Works great for my Garman GPS. No more fussing with the stupid suction cup mount that always decides to drop the GPS at the worse possible moment. I bought the Friction Mount when I bought my new GPS. I wish I had bought for old GPS, it would have prevented a lot of frustration. This is the perfect mount for my rather enormous FJ Cruiser dashboard. It stays where I place it, no fuss no muss. The bottom is just the right weight and grips my dashboard like a champ. Even stays in place when I’m off-roading. The knob at the end of the arm fits inside my GPS to hold it steady and is easliy adjustable for viewing.
Plus: Stays where you place it. Leaves no tell tell signs like the suction did announcing you have a GPS when you remove it. Quality made.
Minus: None

I’m With The People Who Say It Stays

This is the bottom of the line Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Plug-In. It came with everything a sane person could need except a navigation system. So I had to figure out how to install an old touchscreen Garmin. I was very skeptical, but the chance to not to have to drill holes or apply sticky stuff was just too much for me. I’ve had NO luck with the suction cup on the window setup. They always, always seem to fall off in the parking lot while you’re in the big box store getting something bulky and heavy that barely fits in the car or when you’re at the bank or Post Office, and they’re giving you the run-around, to add to your misery and annoyance. Also, the windshield is unusually far away in this Ioniq. It would have been really hard to see, let alone, select anything on the screen. SOLVED! I attached the Garmin to this thing (it just pops on) and made the power cord the right length, putting an elastic band around the folded up part, plugged it into the lighter socket, whatever they call that nowadays, which is almost directly underneath it, and… DONE!! It’s been there, on the dash a little to the right of the steering wheel for a couple months now, and it hasn’t moved! It would have if it was going to, because I’m not lucky at all that way. DISCLAIMER: When you hit a tree or an 18 wheeler, it might, though.

When you rotate the GPS to get it level, it’s got a mechanism that clicks for fine adjustment so it will stay in that position. And, of course, you can swivel it up and down and side to side. Perfect for me. I was one of the people who would never have believed this thing could stick good enough. Not any more!

Better than the suction cup mount on your windshield!

If you live in California, its illegal to use the glass suction cup mount for a GPS. Nothing allowed stuck to your windshield. So… you gotta have one of these to put the GPS on top of the dashboard and not flop around!
The only one better I got with a Garmin 51 GPS was the little clip thing that goes on your air conditioner vent things. I’ve had those before that were terrible, but Garmin figured it out with two ‘fingers’ on the back that close down on the vent things (what do you call them? )and squeeze tight to hold your GPS in place!
The ‘bean bag’ mount on top will hold your GPS wherever you want it, but…. keep in mind in hot sun, your poor GPS will be hot when you get in and won’t cool down much while driving. The little clip-to-your-AC vent mount will cool it off and keep it cool! But… I haven’t found that on Amazon!
I live in Nevada, (hot) and the suction cup things are legal — but they keep falling off the glass!
This bean bag thing works best for me most of the time.

This thing is fabulous!

I have a Prius, with a steep sloping windshield and a textured sloping dashboard. The regular suction holder that came with my Garmin would not work at all on the dash, and even though I could make it work on the windshield, then I couldn’t reach it to push buttons. It also had the downside of needing to leave the mount on the windshield, thus advertising the fact that I had the Garmin in the vehicle. This friction mount is ridiculously easy to use and when I’m not in the car I can easily put it inside the central console with the unit, and then very easily get both out again when I need them. It never slips and can be placed just where I want it for easy access. I’m thrilled with this purchase.
