The company that makes this should include instructions with it.

No it won’t. You’ll need a vga to HDMI adapter and will most likely need it to be powered. Vga is an analog signal and this box is converting digital HDMI to analog Vga. You need the opposite analog to digital.

If you have a need to connect an HDMI source to a VGA input, you cannot do it with a simple cable with the correct connectors at each end.
You need an adapter like this one.
Why?
Because inside the oversize VGA end of this adapter is a D/A (digital to analog) converter. VGA is an analog signal, HDMI is digital …and never the twain shall meet. You must convert the digital HDMI signal to an analog VGA signal to make the connection work. A simple patch cable will not work. This adapter works only one way: digital to analog conversion; HDMI to VGA. There are like adapters for going the other way: HDMI to VGA; make sure you buy the right one.
Overall this is a nice adapter that’s well made and works as it should. It doesn’t transmit audio signals that may be incorporated in the HDMI signal. VGA doesn’t carry audio and you’ll need to use an appropriate patchcord (analog stereo or digital toslink or coax cables) to pass audio directly from the HDMI device to the VGA device.
This adapter’s D/A converter receives it’s power via the HDMI connection …if the device the HDMI end is plugged into provides power. Some do, some don’t. If you hook up this adapter and do everything correctly (to include selecting the correct source input), and get no video signal, then there’s a good chance the HDMI device does not provide power for the D/A converter. In which case you will need to score a powered version of this adapter.
In the end, the is the right way to connect a digital HDMI signal to an analog VGA device.
Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. We purchased this to connect a laptop to an additional monitor. It takes advantage of the laptop’s HDMI out port, and connect it to an older monitor with a (blue) VGA port.
Keep in mind – HDMI is digital and VGA is analog signal. You can connect digital out to analog, but not vice versa. You would need some sort of converter for that.
I received this adaptor and plugged it in and hooked it up to my projector. My computer recognized the projector and displayed the type of projector, but I was not getting any output signal to the projector so it would not display. I contacted the support staff at Morehead after trying everything I knew to do. They asked and I sent them screen shots of the display info, projector info, HDMI video settings saying it was all working well but everything we tried did not work. So they sent me a second adaptor to ensure it was not the adaptor. While they shipped 2nd adaptor I went to MS Windows and researched everything on the HDMI video card and settings. Got the 2nd adaptor in and same thing. What I eventually recognized is that even though computer recognized the projector type and model, the HDMI was not sending an output signal to the projector. I borrowed someone else’s computer and tried the Morehead adaptor and everything worked perfectly. Now I have to get the HDMI video card fixed. I can’t say enough about Morehead’s support team as they went above board in trying to help me get the problem fixed.
I bought this adapter to run an old VGA monitor off of a new nVidia graphics card as part of a three-monitor set-up. The video card has three different outputs; DP, HDMI, and DVI. It is able to use all three simultaneously if desired. This adapter was obviously for the HDMI port. I bought another brand of adapter for the DP port to compare quality. Admittedly not a very exciting experiment, but I’m happy because they both work as intended. Windows 10 correctly identified the ancient monitor through the passive analog adapter and is able to send it whatever resolution I ask. Frankly, I was surprised at how good it looked and how easily it all came together. I see no reason to pay more for an adapter such as this. It does the job. I had never heard of Moread before, but the reviews were good enough to give it a shot. I have not been disappointed.
The flexible cable between the two ends allows me to put the computer box closer to a wall than if it was a solid one-piece unit. I didn’t want a 4-inch plastic lever sticking out the back of my computer, so I got this. So far, so good. Everything communicates correctly across this adapter.
I’m using this on a monitor I have set up on a desk in our loft that the kids use for homework. I’ve got a couple chromebooks that they use and this is perfect for being able to connect those to the monitor to make the work easier when they are home. As it has been said, you have to tell the machine not to send audio through the HDMI if you need it to come through the machine, but that is the only adjustment that had to be made. It is exactly what is needed for anyone who has a chromebook and needs to connect it to a VGA monitor.
I’ve got several computers that I control with a KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) Switch. All my PCs have VGA and USB ports on their backsides. The KVM, unfortunately, has 7-pin DIN plugs for the keyboard and mouse and a VGA cable for video. I bought a bunch of adapters for them a while back and everything was fine. I just replaced the main machine with a more powerful, more modern PC and, you guessed kit, it had no VGA port. It did have an HDMI port, so this adapter was exactly what I needed to hook it into the switch. i just did, and it all works great!
If you’re going to buy one of these, look closely at your current cabling and at the PC ports you want to connect them to. Once you are absolutely certain you’ve got the exact right adapter, put it in your “cart” and then sleep on it. The next day, check it all out, all over again. Being sure beats going through a return/exchange process 🙂
This is a good quality product and everything fit together snugly.
Just got this device today, bought 2 of them and they are working fine. One is for PS3 going to HP analog monitor and the other one is just for backup purpose.
We will see what happen in 3 years? 🙂
A+ for solid build quality (cable, ports and device itself). Recommended!
The media could not be loaded. I am relieved at the fact that I was able to get the right device this time. This is my second time ordering a additional equipment so that my 2nd computer monitor can turn on and work. The second time, I contacted someone from the company of my computer by phone. Word of advice to customers: Don’t contact a customer Representative by chat, do your business over the phone. I have to remind myself certain things are bettter explained by voice not by chat web. [There is a huge disconnect between the two.]The CSR recommended this VGA and HDMI adapter along with it VGA cable port to go attached to it. It was a match made in heaven. I plugged this with the VGA cable port ( also from Amazon) and pressed the power buttom on my desk drive. Next, I turned on my 2 computer monitors on and logging in my account. I didn’t have to do anything else. Everything was perfect!!!! The 2nd monitor was working properly, I was using my mouse moving it from left monitor to the right monitor.
Thanks Monread company for making a wonderful technology device!!
I recommend this product to anyone who needs to hook up a 2nd monitor with their desktop.
Most modern laptops do not come with VGA ports. Even business class laptops have given up VGA. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of peripheral equipment which depend on the VGA input. A lot of LCD projectors in conference rooms and classrooms still depend on VGA. You need this adapter to connect your laptop’s HDMI output to the VGA input of the projector.
This particular adapter works from the HDMI port of your device. The other end connects to the VGA cable of the projector. Because VGA does not carry audio, you will need to also connect an audio cable from the laptop to the speakers. In most cases, this will be done through the audio jack. Sony invented the mini-jack for the Walkman and it is now a part of almost every device on the market.
Connect this device to your HDMI port and the VGA cable from the projector on the other end. You may need to restarts your laptop. That is all you need to do. Some laptops may require you to toggle one of the F-keys to send the video signal to the HDMI output.
This is a recommended purchase for those who have modern laptops and still need to connect to a VGA device.
I bought this for my neighbor (he’s in his 70s). He bought himself a new laptop with an HDMI port on it and his ancient monitor was VGA. He wanted to run the monitor with the laptop for a sort of double monitor setup (all he does is browse the web and play the stock market, but still).
This was the solution for it. Worked like a charm on the first try. Plugged the monitor into the adapter and the adapter into the HDMI port on the laptop. Screen popped right on and after some configuration, has been working well ever since.
Adapter seems well made. Time will tell in terms of long-term durability, but he’s not putting this thing in a backpack and hauling it across town everyday, so I think it’ll be fine.
