They do not work in the 8600 printers, and based on other recent reviews they are incompatible with the entire 8600 SERIES of printers. Don’t waste your time, these cartridges do not work. HP sent through a firmware update in 2017. It’s purpose was to deny use of third-party cartridges. It had the opposite effect. It rendered all of the current stock of 950 XL Black and 951 XL color HP cartridges in incompatible with the 8600 series printers. Late in 2017 they sent through a firmware update that was supposed to cure the problem. It did not. There was also a patch issued by HP, but HP did not push the patch through to your printer. So these cartridges still do not work. Check recent feedback before buying, you will see this is true! I have tried seven different cartridges, four blacks, and three color. Four of those inks came direct from HP store, not Amazon. HP tried to tell me that Amazon sells old and defective cartridges in an effort to get me to buy direct from HP. This turned out to be a lie. All of the new ink cartridges have the Z10 product code. Look at the photos and you’ll see that the current stock of Amazon HP 950 XL Black inks and 951 XL color ink cartridges all have the Z10 code. These cartridges simply do not work, and HP tech support will advise you it is time to buy a new printer! Surprisingly enough, what does work in these older machines are HP cartridges refilled by a local Ink reseller! They also cost less! I’ve been printing for 13 years and this is the first time I have ever use generic ink, but I have no choice as all HP ink cartridges have failed. Save yourself time and hassle, it took me five hours with tech-support and one month to determine that HP simply wants to sell you a new printer! They refunded my money, do not want their brand new cartridges returned, and sent me a $125 gift coupon code to use to buy a new printer! That was their solution. Disgusted!
It depends on what you are printing. It is twice the ink as the standard cartridge, so it will last you twice as long. 😉
Do not know. I have opus end the cartridge on the Oj8600.
I think so because it lasts longer than other inks.
there should be no problem
These are the mysteries of life for which I have no answer. Therefore, I got a new printer.

Info About HP 950XL | Ink Cartridge | Black | Works with HP OfficeJet Pro 251dw, 276dw, 8100, 8600 Series | CN045AN (Reviews From Amazon)
This HP 950XL Black High Yield Original Ink Cartridge (CN045AN) fits my husband’s printer. We LOVE that this is a High Yield Ink Cartridge. It really lasts for a very long time and is well worth paying the difference between the regular cartridge and this High Yield Cartridge. It is a hassle to run out of ink, especially if you live in a smaller town without many purchasing options. The one option we have locally is often out of whatever we are going in for. Love that Amazon has these available. This has been a great Cartridge for us and we will definitely be purchasing these again in the future, when it becomes necessary again. We have purchased several of these over the years and this has been an excellent product for us!
I was given a printer by a friend and needed a new ink cartridge so I bought this one. After I put it into the printer I realized that the error message said that I needed to look online. When I keyed in the URL it brought me to a subscription page. This in cartridge is not able to be utilized in a printer that has a subscription. Just make sure you check your printer before making the same mistake I did. I didn’t mark down the stars because it wouldn’t be fair to the seller but I just wanted to warn the general public about this.
Printers cost less these days but they get you with the cost of the cartridges. That being said, these XL ink cartridges really do last a long time with normal amounts of printing at home. These are extremely easy to swap out. I remember when you practically had to have a degree in printers to change out an ink cartridge. It’s so much easier now.
These cartridges are for my HP Office jet 8600 Plus all-in-one.
As anyone who uses HP printers knows, their inkjet cartridges are very expensive. (Recently I read that
ink jet fluid is probably the most expensive liquid you have in your house!)
This printer seems to use less black ink relative to the color cartridges than previous HP printers I’ve
had. The colored ones don’t seem to last as long, even though I don’t do more color printing than before,
However, this is strictly a subjective assessment, as I’ve never compared the amounts of liquid the various
types of cartridges hold.
I had a cyan cartridge break open with another HP model (manufacturer defect) years ago. It totally ruined
the machine. However, since I’d had it for (just) over a year, HP would neither replace it nor give me a
refund. That was the only time I’ve had any problem with an HP printer cartridge.
I would not use generic cartridges – those I’ve know who’ve done so have too many complaints about them.
I have been using HP printers and ink for over 40 years, ever since the first HP inkjet came out. I have nothing but good things to say about HP and its printers and ink! Good purchase! Don’t waste your time trying out 3rd party items – this works!
HP cartridges are always dependable. No issues installing or for first print. Color black is of course great but colors are very good if you need a color cartridge. Brand loyal!
Not much to say about an ink cartridge of course but the one thing that stands out about these HP ink cartridges is that they are EXPENSIVE. Tried aftermarket cartridge last time and the printed kept saying “not genuine HP cartridge” and got annoying.
This is a much better value than non-xl
Works like it should. I do wish that HP would learn a lesson from President Donald Trump, and lower the price on ink cartridges! They cost more than gasoline! If the price was lower, people would print more, and they would sell more!
I have been using HP printer ink in a HP printer that is nearly 15 yrs old. My experience is never use cheap inks. You are only asking for problems. The cartridges are long lasting and don’t dry out.
