No, you can only burn on one side. double layer means that the laser beam can focus on two different layers on the same side of the DVD. Therefore it can store 8.5 GB of data as compared to a single layer which only stores 4.7 GB of data.
You do not format empty dvd’s. First install a burning application such as dvd fab to copy data or clone other dvds. Double layer dvds are for storing long movies or twice as much data.
you have to have a DVD burner for this type of disk. though you can put music on a DVD you must have a DVD burner to use them. if you did use it for music you would have to have a DVD player to play the music as well. so basically you should really be buying CD R’s if you want to put music on a disk with a CD burner.… you have to have a DVD burner for this type of disk. though you can put music on a DVD you must have a DVD burner to use them. if you did use it for music you would have to have a DVD player to play the music as well. so basically you should really be buying CD R’s if you want to put music on a disk with a CD burner. then it will play in your car as well.

These double layer DVDs have a capacity of 8.5 GB or almost 2 hours of video. Beware that videos take up a huge amount of space on your hard drive as you transfer them first into the computer and then convert them into movie format. I use a Vidbox for converting analogue to digital and then Cyberlink PowerDirector for the final edit before burning. A rewarding winter activity!
The capacity of the DL DVD is much greater than a CD. Music on such a large disc becomes unweildy. If you want a CD you should buy CD’s.
Yes,it will work, but keep in mind, that in order to play back what you recorded your DVD player must be capable to reproduce double layered disk.Make sure yours does.
It depends upon the software you use to burn video files to disk. Best to try it and see if the quality is one you can live with. If not great visual quality, burn to blu-ray.

I used HP and Lenovo which both works great. There are a number of companies providing. You can buy an external or internal type. If you are buying internal, then you need to fix inside a CPU unit. External devices can be plugged to PC via USB port. Some things you need to consider when buying DVD writers are the write (burn) speed. Then you need to check for dvd combatibiliy and make sure the device will be able to WRITE 8 GB compatible DVD’s and not a 4 GB compatible DVD writer. Remember if you buy a 4 GB compatible DVD writer then you can’t write your 8 GB DVD’s but an 8 GB DVD writer is able to write both 8 & 4 GB DVD’s. Search in amazon and you will find many devices. Always buy a branded device because low priced writers may end up in DVD write failures. Good luck.

These work perfectly for any storage use. I use double layer DVDs because the computer .iso files I use are too large for a regular DVD.
Info About HP DVD+R Double Layer 8X 8.5GB 240min Video (Reviews From Amazon)
I was skeptical about getting these dvd’s purely due to the poor reviews. Took a chance thinking what the heck, if they are bad I’ll return em. Through half the spindle without a single bad disk. Thinking these reviews are due to incompatible or bad burners. I am using a dedicated DVD duplicator just for those of you interested in purchasing these DVD+Rs. FYI 😉
This “large” capacity DVDs are great for storing and preserving large amounts of data when needed, be it data on files, music or even video. No longer available on retail stores that I have visited in my area, don’t know why, or know why… the younger generations have no use for this kind of item, as everything is streamed now days. It is OK, I’ve got what I needed at a great value for the money.
A dual layer DVD which I need seldom but when a video file is quite large I don’t know how to cut them and splice them so I buy the dual layers and they work just fine. But normally I buy single layer DVD plus. The price on the HP brand was very competitive to the no name brands.
The latest CENTOS Linux distribution I downloaded was almost 8 GB – geez! So my supply of standard DVD’s was useless. I was able to get 2 day delivery and had only a minimal delay in getting the new system up. The product worked great and the delivery was on time.
Nearly finished the entire spindle, and no bad burns thus far. Make sure your optical drive firmware is up to date. I’m burning with an ASUS desktop drive that is probably five years old, and these discs have burned perfectly to date.
As with anything ready the fine print and ask “what if?” These state 240 min capacity. And that may be true for low definition. However in HD your capacity is reduced quite a bit. Most I was able to squeeze out in HD was 1hr 39min.
Took a chance on these as they were cheaper. So far so good, haven’t made any coasters yet. Just ordered 2 more packs. Will update if those perform differently.
Through no fault of Amazon or the actual retailer this arrive 5 days late. They seem to be more robust than the 4.7gb disk. They are super thick.
I converted our family VHS tapes to 82 DVDs and these were flawless. Very happy with this product.
Used them all up and we’ll have to buy more. To remaster old VHS on DVD it worked perfect now I have them all alone DVD no more vhs.
All of them work great no throwaways
