Is this wire good for outdoor speakers?

Seems to me the jacket is sufficient enough to protect the wire outdoors, but you’d certainly have to take extra measures to protect the connections.

Is this thin enough to run through a drop ceiling to not effect the tiles? Want to use to run rear surround speakers.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "through a drop ceiling to not effect the tiles". If you mean without having to cut a notch in the tile, or tile framework, for the wire to run thorough–maybe. If you mean without having to cut a notch in the tile, or tile framework, for the wire to run thorough–maybe. The wire dimensions are roughly 1/8" (3.175mm) by 1/4" (6.35mm), so it depends on the amount of play you have between your tiles and their framework, or the frame work and your wall depending on how you intend to route the wires. Good luck! BTW: It is more flexible than a 100% copper wire of equal gage.

Can this wire be used for in ceiling speakers?

In order to run low voltage wire in the wall or ceiling, it must be CL2 Rated. This wire is NOT CL2 rated, so it is not approved. Will the police come out and arrest you, no. However, if the structure has ANY type of fire, and the wire is found, insurance company will not pay or if you just did the install, you will… In order to run low voltage wire in the wall or ceiling, it must be CL2 Rated. However, if the structure has ANY type of fire, and the wire is found, insurance company will not pay or if you just did the install, you will be sued.

Not to mention this is CCA wire (copper clad aluminum) which is crap. Spend the extra $40 and buy a quality cable.

What class of wire is this? My receiver says ‘class 2 wiring’.

If class 2 is standard lamp cord, this would probably be class 5. It has very fine stranding and flexibility.

Can this wire be buried in the ground?

Unless it is just a temporary situation I would not. The insulation is not setup for the moisture and abrasive soil conditions. You might look for ‘direct burial speaker wire’ . Most of that looks like 2 conductor but incudes another outside jacket. Hint: I had a friend that as a teen-ager buried coaxial cable … Unless it is just a temporary situation I would not. Good enough for 12v power wire installing two 5w rally lights?

This is more for speaker installation.

Can it handel 1000watt surround sound system

A Typical surround system is like five speakers. So the 1000 watts is like 200 watts per channel. I am a bit of a audiophile. So I will usually use 12 gauge wire for speaker runs 25 feet or longer.. On short runs less than 25 feet 14 gauge is adequate.

Is this 14 “gauge” or 14 AWG standard gauge?

This is standard speaker wire.

is this wire shielded?

No it’s not

Can I use 120 Volts?

I’m no electrician but I don’t think that it’s recommended to use speaker wire for 120v.
My home theatre receiver has a 100-watt-per-channel amplifier so the voltage will be about 30 volts.

Is the blue wire considered the positive?

It is if you connect it to the positive terminal. It really doesn’t matter which wire you connect to positive (or negative) terminal, just make sure the same wire is connected to its matching connector on the other end.

Is it possible to cut the wire and and use it for multiple speakers?

Absolutely, it’s just a bulk roll of speaker wire you can cut sections of any length.

Could I use this wire to make an adapter for a TS-100 mini soldering iron?

This is speaker wire. It is designed to handle low current and I doubt your proposed adapter for a mini soldering iron would be the beat use of speaker wire.

Can the aluminum wire be soldered at the end to make for a stiffer termination.

Yes, remember, it is copper clad

How does one determine the polarity? it was asked before – answer 1 cable darker than the other. also, 1 has print on it. help, please tks

What ever side of the cable you use for black terminal on the speaker you have to use that side of the cable on your av. That is polarity.

Info About InstallGear 14 Gauge AWG 100ft Speaker Wire True Spec and Soft Touch Cable – Blue/Black (Great Use for Car Speakers Stereos, Home Theater Speakers, Surround Sound, Radio) (Reviews From Amazon)

High quality wire for the 95%

This wire is legit! Soft, flexible, lots of fine strands, sounds great. It’s the perfect speaker wire for car audio. I thought the soft insulation might be hard to pull, but it pulled just fine for me under some carpet, and didn’t get caught up once in the process. The 100 foot spool will last a long time unless you’re doing lots of installs or wiring an RV or something else long. Yeah it’s not pure copper, and yeah it’s not 12 gauge. But for 95% of people this wire will do the job… unless you’re a hardcore audiophile or building competition systems. Don’t fall into the trap of buying expensive and unneeded heavier gauge wire. If you do the math most of the time the heavy gauge expensive wire simply isn’t needed.

Great wires, great price

INITIAL REVIEW:

Advertising:
This speaker wire comes exactly as described and pictured.

Shipping & Item condition:
Arrived on time and in good working condition with no damaging.

Price:
$15.99 – This wire, for the gauge and amount of feet you receive, appeared to be some of (if not the) cheapest priced speaker wire I could find.

Build Quality/Durability:
The wire is true to size and has a nice thick sleeve that has a good feel to it. I was considering getting those fancy-looking braided sleeves, but the quality is good enough that they are unnecessary. They split and removed easily as well (though I had a wire stripper, which helped to get a clean strip/cut).

Performance:
I have not yet seen any performance issues with these wires. I’m not an audiophile, nor do I have special audio tools to measure their performance. Considering, however, that I ran about 20 feet around my room, and under my carpet, and still hear no issues with my surround speakers, I’d say they are up to par.

Design/Features:
Not much to say in this department. They’re speaker wires. What you see is what you get.

Overall:
Very impressed with the quality-to-price ratio you get with these wires. They look good, feel good, sound good. No complaints here!

1 Year review UPDATE:
I’ve had these wires for about a year now, and I have had zero issues with them. I’ve had speakers get knocked down and the wires ripped out from the connections, yet they still work fine. They’re just plain speaker wires, after all, so there’s not much to complain about. Still a great product producing great sound!

Great Cable. Color is much better in person.

I love this cable. At first I feared the color would be glossy and horrendous – but once you get it out of the shiny plastic it is not glossy at all. The two-tone brownblue makes it super easy to keep track of positivenegative and the sound quality is excellent. I used it for the rear speakers in my home theater and for bi-amping a pair of vintage Snell speakers in a music listening room.

Get yourself two spools to make it easy to wire pairs of speakers. And if you need a rig to help pay it out I simply used four Black and Decker clamps to hold the spools on a 3/4″ auger bit. Worked perfectly.

Great product / Works perfect ! ! !

This worked perfect. Great product. I use it on an older Yamaha A/V receiver so I could see the set up menu. I use it in conjunction with a HDMI Switcher (4k / 60hz, HDCP 2.2) with a single fiber optic audio out. This set up gives me the ability to use my older Yamaha Flagship receiver that has no HDMI ports. Also, It did not deserve that single 1 star rating it received. That customer said they purchased the wrong product not that there was a problem.

Great wire for super low hard earned dollars!

I was reluctant to order this wire due to a few of the 1 star reviews. Well…they are wrong. The complaint on the “tiny wire shards dropping all over” did not happen to me with over 20 connections, use the appropriate sharp stripping tool in the 12 gauge slot and it will not happen. Twisting the unshielded wire after stripping the jacket multiple times over and over again this did not happen. It was actually easier to work with than some of the pure copper speaker wire of 16 gauge and i had with better results with this wire. Arrived as posted in the pictures, spool ends in tact and wire securely wrapped on the spool. I was able to make such good progress on my project, I used up my first spool in one evening as I installed a 9.1 surround system in my shop. I was so impressed, I ordered another spool the very next day just to have on hand. For just over 15 bucks for 100 ft, I got it with a car stereo install in the future. I am going to try and see if this comes in 10 gauge for amp speaker wires and will order it as well if they do!

Works for me!

It’s a much thicker gauge than I’ve used before, but I haven’t bought speaker wire in years, not since I’d buy rolls at Radio Shack! I’ve always used a thinner-gauge clear wire with one copper wire side and one silver wire side. This wire was a little confusing as to which side was positive & which was negative, because the wire is the same color inside each side, and the outside plastic is brown and blue. Just be sure you use thr same left and right wires in the speakers as in the amp. I used this to add 2 more speakers to my living room. The additional wires fit in my stereo along with the existing wires, I just had to twist the ends as tight as I could. It sounds great to me! I was only running maybe 15 feet of wire for each speaker, so maybe at further distances people are complaining, but I’m not! The price was affordable, I have a lot left, and I’m not in huge debt over copper wire!

True 14 gauge

Finally came after a weather delay, no fault of the seller. True 14 gauge, I’ve seen others with a tiny plastic center. Obviously I wish it was a copper alloy instead of clad, but for the price it’s great. Running 2 50ft runs to my surrounds under the baseboard. Just enough flexibility and grab. Note, I’m not sure this would be good to pull through something such as the carpet as the tac might be too much. Very satisfied.

Nice quality!

What can I say, it’s speaker wire. Showed now defects and my speakers sound great. It is exactly what I expected. Similar product was $50 at Best Buy so I went to Amazon and as expected a high quality product for a great price. If you found this helpful let me know by clicking below.

Excellent for the money

This is copper clad aluminum core wire. It’s very good for the price and my application. Short runs for a home theater. No runs go beyond 25 ft (atmos speakers) several short runs for front speakers. The wire is somewhat brittle as the core is aluminum but for the price it can’t be copper core. The wire is very flexible and feels high quality. The insulation is easy to strip with proper tools. I terminate the wire with connectors that screw together and compress the wire. Otherwise I’d recommend tinning ends with solder. For the money this is a great product. Just be patient with handling when terminating ends.

Updated review

The media could not be loaded.  Well, it’s wire. Someone is colorblind though. If this is blue and black I need to get my eyes checked.

Update. So after leaving this review the seller reached out to me. They 100% made this right and did so very professionally and quickly. I applaud their customer service, I never contacted anyone about this, they took the initiative to contact me. What I received was the correct product and seems to be very good quality.
