iPhone charging slow iOS 16

iPhone charging very slowly after update? You’ve recently updated to iOS 16 or iOS 16.1 and your device is charging very slow when connected to a 20W power adapter? Battery charge increasing by only 3% in 20 minutes? You’re not alone!

iPhone Charging Slowly In iOS 16?

This issue has been reported by Mohamad (iPhone XR, iOS 16.1):

“My phone is charging very slowly using type-C to lightning cable (only 3% within 20min). The issue started after updating the iPhone from IOS 16.0 to IOS 16.1.”

We couldn’t replicate this problem for the time being, but have found a similar complaint on Reddit:

“16.1 my XR takes way longer to charge (if I’m using it, it’s 10 minutes or more for 1% without heavy load) and battery life also seems quite a bit worse.”

It’s not clear how widespread this unexpected behavior is. Both reports are mentioning the iPhone XR!

If you’re experiencing the same please mention it in the comments. Do mention iPhone model and other useful details that can help us report the bug accurately to Apple.

How To Fix iPhone Charging Slow

The first thing that you should try is rebooting your device. A fresh start could clear any minor glitches that might cause the iPhone not to charge properly.

Tip: We recommend you to use the force restart combo for quick results.

If this doesn’t work try different charging options which include:

Other Fixes For iOS 16 Slow Charging

If nothing from the above works you should also check potential hardware issues:
– Clean the iPhone’s lightning port. You can use a toothbrush or a custom Lightning port cleaning kit.
– Make sure that the device is in an environment with normal temperature. If it’s too hot or directly exposed to sun it will overheat and charging might be put on hold until it cools down.

Conclusion: If nothing helps we’re most likely dealing with a software glitch that has to be fixed in an upcoming software update.
