Facts About JBL FLIP 5, Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Black
If you’re parked at a sandbar and place it on the dash you can hear it well outside the boat, that’s how we use ours and it saves our boat battery. If you’re cruising at low speed you can still hear it but its not that enjoyable, and at faster speeds the engine and wind noise will drown it out, hope that helps.
I’m with JVF here…one of the reason I chose this model, is it doesn’t. My current speaker does, and it half pi_ses me off, every time a call comes in, cuts the music out (then I fumble to turn off the BT on my phone so I can answer the call, without everyone within 100ft ease dropping). Thanks JBL!!!
No, this speaker does not include a microphone. The JBL flip 4 did but the 5 no longer includes this feature.
The Flip 5 will connect to your mobile phone, desktop, laptop, and tablet. As far as connecting to a TV may I suggest you look into the JBL 2.0 soundbar All-in-One so there’s no lagging when you’re watching your TV.
Melanie The flip 5 and charge 3 are about the same I think you can answer phone calls on the charge 3 I’m not sure.
Other than that in my opinion the flip 5 is better because it’s the upgrade and despite the fact that you can’t take calls with it,

It comes with the USB C cable
I’ve had issues with other speakers that come with a USB micro cable.
The micro jacks on a lot of cheaper speakers tend to loosen up over time per charge and are harder to connect.
Thanks for reaching out. Our JBL Flip 5 comes in both Teal and Grey colors.
You cannot connect any Flip 4 or Flip 3 to the Flip 5 as it uses partyboost and not connect plus like the 4/3 use.
Go to the page for that product and Amazon will have a trade in value listed right under the price.

My shop is 1800 sq. ft. and I hear it just fine.
Yes, I have a iPhone 8 myself. Works & sounds great. Use the Bluetooth .

The Flip 5 does not. I’ve been using the wall charger from the previous Flip speakers and USB-C from the Flip 5 with no problems. I have also used a generic brand multi-port USB-A charging station plugged into a wall electrical outlet to charge it. No difference in charging times. However, both the Flip 3 and Flip 4’s batteries wore out and wouldn’t take charges from any system (using their original charging cable and wall plug) after about 2 years of 3 to 4 days a week, 2-3 hours a day, use. Most of the time I had the speaker connected to the electric wall outlet charging plug, so it shouldn’t have been using the battery, but it did. Battery life is very poor on the JBL Bluetooth speakers.
Thanks for the question. The JBL Flip 5 is 20 Watts.

Info About JBL FLIP 5, Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Black (Reviews From Amazon)
After reading a handful of reviews that were based on people upset about emotional aspects of the speaker… ie it won’t connect to their flip 4 speakers. Whatever. I looked past that and am glad I went with the 5. The sound quality is superb. The bass response is indeed superior to the 4 as well as the battery life. At the same price point of 100 dollars its a no brainer. The Flip 5 is a superior model in all aspects. This speaker far, far exceeded my expectations. This speaker is stupid loud – and crisp at that. I work in an automotive shop and I keep my volume at 25% in my station. Phenomenal sound, phenomenal quality, could not be happier. I highly recommend.
The media could not be loaded. The speaker itself is really loud. As you can see in the video, I barely have this turned up and the speakers on the side are bouncing. Changing the song forward is really easy, just push the play button twice (double tap). The only thing you can’t do is change it back. I can have my phone away and I’m still able to turn the volume up or down with just pushing the buttons of the speaker. You’ll see that I have a case on my speaker, it’s the RichSmile Silicone Carrying Travel Case for JBL FLIP 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Even with the case on, it doesn’t alter the sound that comes out of this thing. I haven’t tested the waterproof on this however, I have taken this at the beach and in the mountains and the sound on this is amazing. Easy to connect to either types of phones and even tablets. Really am amazed with the sound quality on this speaker.
The media could not be loaded. So far I love it. Have the flip 4 and charge 3 and this one out does both. It’s a bit bigger then the flip 4, but not much and has great balanced sound.
This little speaker packs a punch!! I drive a truck over the road and some of the different company trucks get crap signal. This thing has been a lifesaver for music!!! It’s loud even with the windows down in the rig. Wheather you listen to country music or rock, this thing plays with amazing quality.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I have not tested the waterproof aspect of the speaker yet but I’m so impressed with the sound quality/battery life that i gave it a 5 star across the board.
El color color es mi vieja bocina Flip4 & la gris mi nueva Flip5. Estoy muy contento porque cumplio con mis expectativas, es más grande & mejor sonido! La recomiendo a todos
Easily the best purchase I have ever made. I was skeptical but this little thing exceeded my expectations by far over 1000 percent.
Astounding quality, gorgeous color, and the sound quality is extraordinary.
If you really want to test thing out, play something by Billie Eilish, the base is incredible. 5/5 stars.
The media could not be loaded. I got this speaker because my car speakers no longer work. And this speaker sounds better than my car speakers ever did! I was expecting more of a blush pink, this is definitely a mauve color, but I actually REALLY love it. And as a pink lover, I’m not disappointed in the least. In my picture are a few other Amazon ordered items that are pink and kinda what I was expecting, but again I do still love the color and I am picky about my pinks. My sister has the flip 4 and the sound is great on that, but I feel like this Flip 5 does go louder. But I am not going to test it that much cause no reason to blow the roof off the house. A few reviews have said that the Flip 4 has better sound. I just want people to be aware of the Partyboost feature it’s the ♾ button. It makes the sound a little more clear and loud. But honestly, I have had speakers that actually made my music quieter than actually playing it from my phone. I say when you get this speaker, it’ll meet your expectations and then some.
This is my first Bluetooth speaker and I’m really enjoying it. I downloaded the JBL app, it was super easy to connect to my phone, and I use Spotify normally as I would, but I choose the Flip speaker as the sound output. Super easy and a lot of fun.
It fits nicely in my bike water bottle cage. I am using the Profile Designs Kage, this bottle cage completely surrounds a bottle (or the speaker).
The media could not be loaded. Okay listen, I waited two months between the time I decided I wanted to get a speaker and when I actually got it. I wanted to be sure I actually wanted/needed it & since I’m not much of a tech person I wanted to educate myself & do research because I was debating between this one and the JBL CHARGE 4.
I decided to go for this one & I am so so so glad I did!! The sound quality is amazing, (crisp and clear) even when you go the loudest it does not sound muffled or lose sound clarity whatsoever. The battery life is amazing, JBL FLIP 5 (this one) lasts 12 hours & only takes 2.5 hours to charge. The JBL CHARGE 4 does last 18 hours I think? But it takes 5 hours to charge. Besides, 1. I don’t see the need for 18 hours unless you’re a wild party animal that doesn’t sleep 2. Ain’t nobody got time for wait 5 hours for a charge.
The color I chose is the pink which I am absolutely happy with!! (See pics and video for reference to color & size. My gosh the size. It’s perfect. For ya desk, ya shower, ya backpack, ya car!! So easy to carry with you ANYWHERE. It’s light but also has tough mesh and quality build.
It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Honestly. $120 bucks for something like this? You’re definitely getting your bucks worth. It’s perfect!!
Got this JBL Flip 5 on July, 18th 2019. I was satisfied with the quality of sound; not too loud or low and good bass. As an aside, I primarily used it by placing it inside my rucksack and rucked with it; not fully closing the zippers on top, so the sound would come out; again, it worked well; just the right amount of sound and all the while it wasn’t annoying or intruding on passerby’s. However, late August, just after the one month return policy, the speaker had issues turning on. I thought it was simply a low battery issue; however, it got worse and worse, harder and harder to turn on, and now today, 9/10/2019, it no longer turns on. Complete waste of $100. JBL are you serious? Not even two months of usage, and at that, not even daily usage. Never again JBL; fool me once…
Revised update 12/30/19:
Contacted JBL directly. They explained I had a one year warranty, and just needed to show proof of purchase and explain my issue/s. Then, just wait for a decision.
After some slightly confusing exchange of emails, but tolerable ones, and maybe ten business days or so, I was told to return the speaker to them, and was then sent a replacement, but only upon them inspecting the defective one, and substantiating the issue.
Moreover, the return was not smooth nor easy as one two three, but it was also not terrible or overly frustrating. But, in short, I’m very satisfied with the product; hence, the upgrade to four stars; however, and the long version, concerning the customer support on both ends (Amazon and JBL), they’re both somewhat lacking. Yet, and again, the actual speaker itself, and in my opinion, is well worth the $100! I’ve gone back to using it a lot, and, in most instances, still as described above. Lastly, I would be open to buying another one, to connect them, if my wife shows interest. So, I guess that’s a win for this speaker. Be well, love and peace and happy holidays to all.
