Facts About Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones // Device Shielding for Law Enforcement, Military, Executive Privacy, Travel & Data Security, Anti-Hacking & Anti-Tracking Assurance

What size is this bag? The listing says 22" x 15" but some reviewers say 5" x 9". Which is correct?

Case is 10" wide x 9" high, and when folded with phone inside the height is now 6" works great on my Moto G Stylus (2021) perfect fit. Totally Blocks Cell phone calls, GPS, Bluetooth this is the "Phone" size faraday bag… would buy again….,

Where is this manufactured?

I know that over 90% of the Mission Darkness products are manufactured in the U.S., and that they are working toward 100%. Concerning this specific product my guess is that it’s in the 90% group. I hope this helps, but to be sure you can contact the company direct at +1 805 318 3212 or [email protected].

Will this bag protect the device user / wearer against emf radiation? Thanks!

It’s not designed for human wear. It is made to isolate a mobile device from the cellular network so it can’t be accessed, erased or changed. If you put your device in the bag, it wouldn’t emit any EMF… but it wouldn’t function, either.

Will this work for a IPhone 6S+????

I have a Galaxy S5 (with the bulky Otterbox), which is only slightly smaller than the 6S+, and the bag fit my phone with tons of room to spare. You shouldn’t have any problem fitting your phone in this bag at all.

Will this bag work for multiple automotive keys to keep the signals out, like the one for the key fobs?

Yes absolutely! It’s a good sized bag (dimensions in the listing) so it can hold multiple sets of keys to protect your vehicle from relay hack and digital theft. Hope this helps! -Ryan, MOS Equipment

Does it block the new 5g that’s rolling out?

Mission Darkness ad states, "The bag will block all wireless signals including WiFi (2.4 & 5GHz), Bluetooth, cell signals including 5G networks, GPS, RFID, and radio signals with 60dB-80dB average attenuation from low MHz to 5GHz spectrum."

Does your cell battery waste frequently as it tries to get a signal? Has anyone had issues with batteries depleting? Does it get hot? Thanks!

I have had no problems with battery run down. The phone goes to sleep due to no signal. I have had no he phone in the bag for 12 hours with no power decline.

Would just leaving your phone powered off be the same thing as putting it in this faraday bag, as far as blocking emf radiation?

its a good question and i took my ‘handi meter", and tried to gage the phones emissions when: on, airplane mode, off, and in faraday bag. definitely emitting when on, and it seems to lessen with the next three steps. i know that ‘Dr. Mercola’ on the internet says he feels it still emits when its on airplane mode, and k… its a good question and i took my ‘handi meter", and tried to gage the phones emissions when: on, airplane mode, off, and in faraday bag. definitely emitting when on, and it seems to lessen with the next three steps. i know that ‘Dr. Mercola’ on the internet says he feels it still emits when its on airplane mode, and keeps it far away from his sleeping area. but i love this black faraday bag, if i get texts or calls they don’t seem to come thru till i remove the phone from bag

How long does this back last?

I’ve had mine over a year, and so far nothing on it is wearing out. It’s sturdy and gets the job done.

Key fob needs to be present for the car to start. I want to leave the fob in the car while I’m surfing. Will this prevent push button start?

I just put my key fob in the Faraday bag, sat in my car, pushed the button. Does not start. So, to answer your question this bag prevents push button start!

Just bought a mission darkness bag. i put my phone in the bag and listened to npr last night. does this mean the bag is or isn’t working?

I downloaded the app on Google Play called " MD Faraday bagTester " (app) you install the app, start app put the cell phone inside your faraday Bag, and it shows a line graph, when in the bag, the graph drops down to zero showing the signal is blocked while in the bag. Does it work good ? And will it block 5G on iPhone ?

This blocks all signals from Bluetooth, wifi, gps, on my cellphone and iPad. It is amazing. Does what it advertised to do.

What is it made of?

I don’t know either. There’s some kind of strong mesh on the outside and it’s lines with a metallic looking fabric on the inside. I briefly went on their website….they don’t seem to say there either. If you have a particular reason to want to know, I suggest you contact them. Good product!

is this good to carry medicines to prevent exposure to X-Rays while passing through airport security?

Our faraday bags are not designed to block ionizing radiation such as x-ray and gamma ray so we would not recommend using them for this purpose. – MOS Equipment

My iPad is 0.4 inches thick. The 9.8 x 9.0 bag has a few extra inches so will the iPad fit inside despite the rating of 0.2 inches thick?

yes, thickness is your barrier wall.. My iPad is the same size as yours and it fits !

Test it properly with online app.

I was thrilled to get this but figured I’d test it a few times to see if it works. My first test. I connected to a Bluetooth music receiver , I let the music play and then put my phone into this bag. The music stopped. 2nd test.. I had wifi turned off and data turned on, I put phone into bag and sent a text to my phone via pc. No sounds of receiving a text. I took phone out of bag and a few seconds later the text arrived! So far so good. I then turned off data and turned on wifi and repeated the previous test. Worked great! I was going to leave it at that but decided to download the MD Faraday bag testing app. This is kind of contradicting as it makes you let the app have permission to access all aspects of phone including photos. I downloaded it anyway, Started the test, put phone in bag (yes, closed it properly). Waited about 20 seconds and took out the bag. At first this test failed and I jumped the gun and gave a 1 star but I read instructions again. It seems you must take device out of bag and wait about 30 seconds before stopping the test. Each time I did this, it passed with flying colors so it’s 5 stars.

UPDATE…
It’s been about 6 weeks of using this bag. It mostly works BUT today I tested it 3 times in a heavy populated area while driving and it failed 3 times. When I got to a less populated area it passed. Shouldn’t this either work or not work. Maybe I’m mistaken but I would think it should work when stationary or while driving. Bumping it down a star.

Faraday Bag for Keyless Ignition & Mobile Phones

I purchased this Mission Darkness Faraday Bag because I was concerned about the growing trend of theft of vehicles with keyless ignition via ‘relay attacks’ where outside your home thieves grab the signal being transmitted by a nearby key fob inside the home using a special receiver, and then that receiver relays that signal to the car, allowing the thieves to unlock it and/or start the ignition. I put both key fobs in the Mission Darkness Faraday Bag, and tried to start the Nissan Maxima several times via the push button start while sitting in the driver’s seat with the bag in my lap. 100% successful tests! And then decided to test the bag to see if it blocked WiFi and phone signals as well, so I started a test on the Mission Darkness app, placed the phone in the bag and sealed it. Per the attached screenshot, you can visiually determine the exact moment when I placed the Sprint LTE mobile phone in the bag. Another successful test. I highly recommend this product!

Its construction reminds me of a Tumi style ballistic nylon briefcase

I ordered my first Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones along with another brand that sells multilayer mylar bags in a collection of various sizes which allows them to be placed one inside the other (nested) to build up the protection they offer.

Before ordering I noticed that on the Mission Darkness website that they offer an App that one can load onto their phone to actually test the bags efficiency in blocking out the Cellular and Wi-Fi signals; as a means to test the bags ability of blocking energy waveforms that might be part of an ESD or EMP event.

Both items arrived on the same day and I proceeded to the Mission Darkness website to download the App for my phone.

The Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones is a nice size and I also tested it to see how additional devices might fit; like an external backup hard drive, memory sticks, cryptocurrency hardware wallets, and a handheld ham radio. For me, the items I tested did fit for my purpose which is I want a separate bag for each, backup hard drive in one, ham radio in another, etc. Mission Darkness does offer larger bags but this size works for me.

Onto testing, first up the Mission Darkness bag I ordered. After downloading the App, I followed the instructions that has you start the App and let in run for 30-60 seconds first, this allows the App to build up a baseline for testing. Next I placed my phone into the Mission Darkness bag and rolled down the top of the bag and closed it with the Velcro attached to the bag. Following the instructions I left the phone in the bag for a good minute or so and then when time was up I removed the phone from the Mission Darkness bag and observed the results. Just as described by the Mission Darkness website the App showed that Mission Darkness bag completely blocked the Cellular and Wi-Fi signals. I repeated the test a second time to see what would happen if I did not roll down the top of the bag and close it completely; the results showed some blockage of signal but not completely, only about 20-40% was still able to get through to the phone.

Up next the other brand of multilayer mylar bags. Using the same instructions and testing procedures for the Mission Darkness App, I started with one mylar bag, started the App as before, placed my phone inside the bag and closed the bag using the built-in Ziplock style closure. Again after waiting a good minute; the App showed no signal blockage. I restarted the test again this time I placed the first bag into a second multilayer mylar bag; the App again showed no signal blockage. Onto the third test, I placed the first two bag into a third bag and started the test; again the App showed no signal blockage. It was not until I tested it the fourth time using four nested mylar bags did the App showed any signal blockage; this time the Wi-Fi signal was completely blocked but only about 60% of the Cellular was blocked.

Things I like about the Mission Darkness bag:
Its construction reminds me of a Tumi style ballistic nylon briefcase.
Ease of use and access for the items one might access frequently or periodically.
Only needing one bag, the bag itself to block the signals as demonstrated by their App.

Would recommend the Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones, for anyone looking to protect not only their phone but other electronics devices like an external backup hard drive, memory sticks, cryptocurrency hardware wallets, and/or a handheld ham radio. For added protection from water, one might want to place their electronics into a Ziplock style plastic bag before placing them into a Mission Darkness bag.

VERY well made professional grade product that works!

VERY well made and it works! It may be a bit over-built, but I like that!
I did several of my own real-world tests using cellular, WiFi, and Bluetooth. With the phone turned on inside the bag, no signal made it in or out of the bag.
Note that you do have to power your phone down, OFF, not just sleeping, when you put your phone in the bag. If you don’t, your phone will continually try to establish cell service and will run your battery down quickly.
Use the bag wisely. Turn your phone off and put it in the badge BEFORE you head out to your destination. Wait until you are away from your destination and in an isolated area to power your phone up. You will be able to be traced and located when you do, so just consider when and where you are when you do so. Your missed text messages, voice mail and missed calls will begin to roll in within a few minutes of powering your phone up.
There is a lot of great information on the Mission Darkness website. If you are concerned about Contact Tracing, it is worth your time to read, watch and understand the information on their site and elsewhere.

Tested

Read other reviews which made me nervous. I am in FL so being flat land with verizon service I get great reception almost everywhere. Put phone in bag while on the phone, listening to music (spotify), connected to blue tooth. All disconnected within seconds of bag being folded closed. I checked wifi Router, phone disappears from log. I tried e-mailing, texting and calling phone while in bag no alerts. So for me it works as I was hoping.

Create your own digital black hole.

This bag does exactly what the description says it will do, at least in terms of blocking signals. It is made of very sturdy materials, and I keep it as part of my EDC. I tested with my Otter Box-protected Samsung Galaxy S8+ and my S3 Frontier watch separately, and then I put them in together. Just for fun, I then put in my Galaxy Tab 4 8-inch tablet along with the phone (still in the Otter Box) and my watch. Although it was a little snug for all 3, I was able to successfully seal the bag.

Check out the pictures, you’ll see in the bag: 1. The phone and watch, 2. The phone, watch, and tablet, and 3. All devices sealed up. You can see the watch pressed against the front of the bag in the third picture.

Once I dropped them in and sealed the bag according to the instructions, no signal penetrated the bag in either direction. Without access to an EMP device, I was unable to test that protection.

Law enforcement officers can use this bag to preserve digital data on devices during an investigation. This protection would prevent a remote wipe of the device until investigators could get it into a Faraday Cage for further research.

If you find yourself wanting to protect your devices from rogue signals, or if you work for a law enforcement agency needing to preserve digital data, this is your ticket.

Solid quality. Feels professionally made, not cheap at all. Phone loses signal entirely when placed in bag. GPS and cell phone signal are both cut (tested both find my iPhone and an actual phone call). Remember to put phone in airplane mode before placing in bag (I did not do this during my tests), otherwise your battery will die quickly from the device constantly searching for a signal to connect to.

It works and is spacious

I tried it out by putting one phone in the bag and calling it with another phone (old flip phone and a smart phone), laying it right on top of the bag and holding it a few inches away. Then I switched phones and repeated. Checked both phones logs and absolutely nothing. I also bought a Mission Darkness bag to put a few small electronics in, thumb drives and an external hard drive. It works just as well.

It fastens with strong Velcro. It’s very secure. The first time was a bit of a struggle getting it open again. The fastest and easiest way to open it, I discovered, was to run my thumb nail the full length against the fastened Velcro 2-3 times.

I bought this to be able to take my smart phone with me if I needed to. I have been leaving it at home and carrying my old flip phone (I always keep it turned off) with me in case of emergency. It calls AAA and 911 just as well (and I have used the flip phone for both). I have no desire to use a phone while I’m out and about nor do I appreciate being tracked. I value my freedom.

When you put your phone in this bag you will not be connected to anything. That’s the whole purpose of a faraday. If someone needs to reach me, well, they will have to wait until I get home, just like when we all had land lines. I do not need map location, I’m old school and have been all over the US my whole life without technology and usually without a hard copy map. I do not use social media while I’m out and very little at home.

I understand some of us can’t afford the luxury of turning off our technology (been there), but I am grateful we can help protect our privacy, security and freedoms with products like what Mission Darkness offers.

Mission Darkness Phone Bag (not all reviews are for MD Products)

I see that many of the reviews with low ratings either talk about a different brand or don’t specify if the product they’re reviewing is a Mission Darkness product.
I now have 2 phone bags. One used for my hard drives with backup data, the other when I want my phone to go into a black hole. The outer nylon and stitching is top notch. There are several layers in the construction and it certainly cuts off everything off from them. The inner layer is a gold fabric, and the middle layer has a crinkly sound which most likely is some sort of anti-static sheet. There are no loose threads around the velcro and the opening rolls up and closes very tightly. It is roomy enough that I can put two external hard drives with their USB cables inside. The only drawback for me is that it is very large and has no possibility of fitting inside any pockets. You must put this into a briefcase or pack of some sort.

This product (Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones) functions as described

I purchased, tested and returned the Silent Pocket Faraday Bag Smartphone Sleeve because it did NOT block text signals. The Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Phones functions as described; it blocked all signals when I tested my phone secured in it. No cell signals and no text messages passed through this product. Only issue I had was with Amazon; when I searched Amazon it DID NOT display one other Mission Dark Faraday phone bag (smaller version). I found it after purchasing this product. This bag functions great but my wife would have preferred a smaller version for her purse. I will be looking into that product next.
