Philips AVENT’s new line of Natural Response flow nipples are three times faster than conventional bottles and come in a variety of different shapes, colors, and sizes (a variety that now includes the Natural Response Baby Bottle Nipples Flow 1). The new line of flow nipples are designed to give babies a faster, easier, and more comfortable feeding experience. Philips AVENT Natural Response Baby Bottle Nipples Flow 1 is a trusted product for your baby’s first feeding. The patented Natural Flow nipple system moves with your baby’s sucking action, changing the flow of milk from air to milk. The flow can be regulated to the amount of milk your baby needs, making every feeding comfortable, reassuring, and perfect for growth.

I would say 1. My daughter used old version flow 1 and the comparable size of the new version was flow 3. But the flow of the new version nipple is terrible. Baby sucks and sucks and barely gets milk out. I don’t know what they changed something that was good.

This new Philips Avent Natural Bottle with Natural Response Nipple creates a personalized feeding experience by focusing more on the baby’s drinking behavior than only on their age. Choosing a bottle nipple that responds to the baby’s drinking behavior means that the age chart serves more as a guide. This newfound flexibility allows parents to increase or decrease the nipple flow as they follow their baby’s unique lead. With five Natural Response Nipple sizes available, you can choose a bottle nipple that is comfortable for their baby’s drinking pace, and that syncs with the flow rate at the breast: Flow 1(0 month), Flow 2( 0 month + (recommended size to start off with), Flow 3(1 Month+) Flow 4(3 months+) and Flow 5(6 months+).

We’ve created our new nipple to work more like a breast so your baby can drink, swallow and breathe using their natural rhythm, like they do when breastfeeding. Milk only flows when your baby actively drinks, which means they’re always in control of the flow and can feed and pause comfortably. If your baby is already used to the previous Natural Nipple, or even another traditional bottle, they may need a higher nipple flow in the Natural Response Nipple because they are used to milk flowing quickly with less effort. We are in the process of changing all our Natural Nipples to the new Natural Response Nipple, so we are no longer making the previous versions of the nipple. In some stores or online, you may still find some of the previous Natural Nipples as they work through any inventory they may have.
If they haven’t been using older style nipples sure.
I don’t think they make an in between? I went straight to a stage 2!

The age in the Philips Avent Natural Response Nipples are just a guidance to help you get started but once you start feeding you need to rely on baby cues as all babies develop and approach feeding their own way. You might need a higher nipple flow if you see your baby struggling to get milk out, or playing with the nipple. On the other hand, if you notice milk leaking from your baby’s mouth, or fast gulps, it could be a sign they need a lower nipple flow. The Natural Response Nipple is available in nipple flows 1 to 5. As long as your baby is calm and comfortable while feeding, there’s no need to change the flow rate. You don’t need to step up the flow based on age, as baby cues are the best way to tell when your baby is ready for a higher flow rate.

There are a lot of reviewers that say that they dislike the newer version of this nipple so I know I am in the minority here but I like the new nipple design! My daughter is almost 6 weeks old and has been on the new nipple (1) since we introduced the bottle (week 1). The flow is slow enough for her to drink. I had some leftover (flow 1) nipples from my previous pregnancy (2019) and when I added those into the rotation she couldn’t keep up with the flow even though it was the same flow number. With the old design she chokes and sputters and we have to stop her frequently because milk will be running out of her mouth. I tried drinking from both designs and concluded that the new design appears to cater to newborns, especially those who are breastfeeding because you have to mimic their suckling to get milk. We have only been on size one with her so far so I can’t talk about any other sizes but if you think the flow rate is too low for your child consider graduating your child to the next flow rate. Unfortunately with all the negative feedback that advent is getting, I’m afraid they’re going to cave and go back to the old design. If this happens I’m not sure what newborns should use as the old design is clearly not the best for their need to slowly eat.
These work great, snap right into your existing bottle and boom the baby is feeding faster. We primarily got these to work with a milk supplement that adds tiny bits of allergens to the milk. Our other bottles/nipples didn’t seem to have a good enough flow to support the addition, but these worked great.
I bought 9oz Avent natural bottles that came with level 2 nipples and my baby was spilling milk and/or finishing the bottle way too fast with every other feeding. I switched to the level 1 and not one drop spilled with her feeding. My baby is 3 months and although she probably will transition to level 2, sooner than later, it was worth buying the 1s for her not too spill the liquid gold I worked so hard for 🙂 came nicely packaged, seems very durable, and easy to clean
I have a new baby and have been struggling with bottlefeeding. The old level 1 nipples I had for these bottles were way too slow. She would literally be trying to feed for 10 or 15 minutes and getting nothing, then falling asleep because she was tired. The old level 2 ones however made such a mess because she couldn’t swallow fast enough. Which considering the price, and occasional scarcity, of formula right now, It sucks to see God knows how much dribble on to the bib or clothing. these new level 2 nipples are just right. But I could definitely see how the difference in flow compared to the old level 2 would be very frustrating for Other reviewers.
Size 5 is much better than sizes 3 and 4, which had almost no flow and discouraged the baby. Sizes 3 and 4 are not recommended, because they have less flow than size 2 unless the baby sucks very hard, which ours either couldn’t or didn’t know that he was supposed to. To clarify, sizes 0, 1, and 2 are just a hole, then sizes 3, 4, and 5 have a simple valve that requires sucking on to open.
Until about 6 months old, the sizes 0, 1, 2 worked well, but when that was too limiting we tried the next size up (3) and that was worse than 2. We modified it with scissors to be somewhat acceptable. Size 4 was also too hard for him and we modified that also. Size 5 finally worked well.
This is horrible, why does no milk come out? We went from I guess the old version flow 2 tried to up to flow 3 for our baby and after about 5 mins I noticed no change in oz. He was able to finish 3oz in about 8 mins with flow 2 old version, the flow 3 took 20 mins! And to try and find the older version is not existence!! I’m so sad we just invested in the glass bottles and idk what to do if this is the new nipples because my baby isn’t barely getting anything!!! Super bad!!! Avent bring back the old design and fire whoever decided this new version is better because they obviously didn’t test it out on babies!!!
Update: we ordered the old style nipple for size 2 off of the avent website which was working great but started collapsing, we gave the size 3 new version a try again (at 4 months) and it actually went really well, he slowed down his feeding and the spit up is super minimal now because he takes a little longer to drink (about 10-15 minutes for 4/5oz of milk) I would recommend waiting till baby is a little older to try the size 3 ones and has a good latch/suction (signs like collapsing previous nipple)
My kid was dribbling with browns and even the advent colic nipples. This one no leak. He’s happy. Maybe eating slower or maybe we was wasting that much from his dribble. I can tell he’s got a stronger latch with it vs others when I try to take it away. Cleans well, vents, works with the colic advent bottles and I don’t need the green part!
My baby does so much better with the new version of these nipples than the old! They react more like a breast than any other nipple we’ve tried. She does not get choked feeding anymore because the bottle stops the flow when she stops sucking. She has no issues feeding from them either. She can down the bottle just as fast as she can any other. Don’t count these bottles and nipples out! Every baby is different!
These are great! My 2 month old was choking on other nipples because of the too fast flow-any we tried. These are awesome, she doesn’t choke but can drink quickly and efficiently. By far the best nipples. (The size 1 and 2 we’re too slow flows but the 3,4, are great. We haven’t tried the 5 yet.
Baby is breastfeeding except one time at night and was able to easily get the hang of the bottle without it affecting breastfeeding at all. Love these!
In summary, It is made from 100% food grade silicone, free from PVC, phthalates, BPA, lead, latex, melamine, cadmium, and BPS. The contoured shape of the bottle helps to encourage natural sucking and chewing movements. The bottle is BPA free and has no added bisphenol-A. In addition, the bottle is dishwasher safe and is microwaveable.
