Anyone with a newer vehicle that has a “textured” surface, this won’t work.

Then I got the Otter Symmetry series one-piece case, the one that does not have the round cutout for the Apple logo. This case is thinner when installed so it is more comfortable in your pocket, but it is too thick for the magnet to stick properly. I would say that the MagicMount is not compatible with the Symmetry Otterbox case if you want the magnet inside the case. I’m going to try the magnet on the outside of the case, but I don’t expect that the adhesive on the metal plate will stick to the case because the case is not a completely flat and smooth surface. It’s not a knock on the Scosche, but just an incompatibility with this particular case.

None of the answers given are correct.
The baseplate that attaches to the dash the magnet measures 1 3/4"W x 1 13/16"H
I have had this since 2019 in NC and it gets hot here. It has been fine. The adhesive (from OTHER products) on my phone Is what melts, but this sucker is STUCK to my dash.
I cannot say for long term use since I just installed it 2 days ago. But, I did remove it and install it at a different location. The 3M adhesive seems to be removable and did not damage anything.
Yes, two metal plates will be included with this item. Feel free to contact Tech Support 800-363-4490 Ext. 1
Only once had the suction cup come off the dash (and that was after sitting in direct sunlight all day in HOT temp here in Sacramento!) The ball and socket have never had an issue.

It has been extremely cold here so it’s either the cold temperature or the heat which I have it set on high. Otherwise I recommend it. Very easy to attach and detach a phone or gps.
Yes. If your cover is tight, you don’t even need to attach. Just set it in there. I have a clear soft plastic cover and it works fine. Great product and so simple.
I have a soft silicone case and it is fine. The metal plate that is put on your case has a sticky back and may pull off any crystals that are on the outside of the case. You might try putting the plate on the inside of your case instead. Depending on how thick your case is, it may or may not work.
Yes but not the mount but just the phone. The phone is held with magnet so you can rotate it however you want to. The magnet is not super strong so a bump may knock it off especailly if you have a big phone.

Make sure to use the small metal plate on your phone as well.
The magdmb is the normal magnet. The mpda is our pro magnet, which is 30% stronger
Hard to confirm 100% as I don’t know which wireless charging stand you have. If the plates and the magnets are placed so they don’t interfere with the wireless charging, then it will work. Also note that magicMOUNT will need to sit recessed so that your phone sits flush with your wireless charging stand.
Info About Scosche MAGDMB MagicMount Magnetic Car Phone Holder Mount – 360 Degree Adjustable Head, Universal with All Devices – Dashboard Mount (Reviews From Amazon)
I did a lot of research before buying a dash mount for my iPhone 6 (well technically I didn’t buy it but I put it in my Amazon wishlist for my sister to get me for Christmas since she drew my name). I drive a brand new Mazda CX-5 grand touring edition with beautiful black leather interior. It’s a sexy car and I wanted something that would fit the look of my car and not be too big or clunky and destroy the clean lines of the dash and console. I loved this idea and was really excited to receive it for Christmas and try it out! Unfortunately it wasn’t quite what I hoped initially. Allow me to explain.
I had picked out the perfect spot where I wanted to put this on the dash, which is a very smooth, yet somewhat textured (to look like leather) firm rubbery surface (see pics). It says right on the package, "Mounts to textured surfaces" so I thought it would be no problem as this surface is relatively flat and is BARELY textured. I followed the instructions to the letter, but the mount wouldn’t stick to the dash well enough to hold it’s own weight for 10 seconds let alone the weight of my phone! It fell off immediately. I tried again, holding it down for like 3 minutes this time and still, wouldn’t even stick for 2 seconds.
I wrote to the company and they sent me a replacement mount to try. When it arrived, I tried it again, once more following the steps to the letter. Additionally, after pressing firmly for a few minutes, I left the mount alone for several hours before I tried putting my phone on it. When I came back to my car I was delighted to see that it was still stuck! I put my phone on it and drove home from work. However, within 15 minutes (and a few speed bumps and pot holes later) it had fallen off… 🙁
I was officially frustrated at this point but decided to try sticking it to a hard and completely smooth plastic surface just below where I had been trying to mount it before and it stuck quite well and held my phone, but because I had already stuck it to the other surface, it had lost some of its tack and wasn’t going to hold forever, so I wrote to the company AGAIN explaining my problem and they sent me a 3rd mount to try.
This time I just went straight for that hard, smooth plastic surface (even though it isn’t where I wanted to put it because it blocks one of the air vents a little) and it is AWESOME! I really have debated what rating to give this product because now that it’s stuck, it works like a dream and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I truly think it’s the ideal mounting system for phones and tablets, but man what a PAIN getting to this point! And their promise that it would stick to textured surfaces proved to be very much untrue for me. If I had stuck it to that hard plastic surface from the start I would’ve given it 5 stars for sure!!
Here’s what I wish I had known about this from the beginning but learned through much trial and error:
– If you’re mounting it on a vertical surface (see my pictures) it really has to be completely smooth.
– I wish the instructions had given more information about which magnetic plate to use for which devices. I started by putting the large plate on my iPhone 6 but that was NOT necessary. The tiny plate has more than enough magnetic strength to hold an iPhone 6 in a slim case even when plugged in.
– Even though this is advertised to usable immediately, I HIGHLY recommend you stick it per the instructions and then WAIT OVER NIGHT before allowing it to bear weight.
– Based on a few trials, I find that the best placement for the metal plate is at the bottom of the phone (see pics) with the long side horizontal. I tried at the center and with the plate’s long side pointing up and down vertically and I like the way this sits much better. I have mine stuck to the back of my clear plastic case.
– Customer service was very helpful and prompt, so if it doesn’t work for you for some reason, don’t give up and write a bad review before talking to them about it because I promise once you get it to work you will LOVE it!!
Other things I love about it:
– Sleek, sexy, minimal design
– STRONG magnets but not so strong that you have trouble pulling the device off with one hand
– The options this gives you for degrees of rotation are limitless! LOVE that!
– Magnetic plate that attaches to the device is SO THIN I barely notice it at all. It doesn’t get in the way of slipping it in and out of pockets, purses, backpacks etc., and doesn’t look completely obnoxious.
In summary, I think this mount is probably the best dash mount out there, but unfortunately it didn’t quite live up to its advertising for me. I was going to give it 3 stars, but decided on 4 because customer service was so great and because in the end, even after all the headache and disappointment I really really love it! I hope this helps someone else in the market! I did NOT receive this item for free or at a discount.
Solid item. Very happy with it. Of all the mounts I have tried, I have learned a number of things about my personal preferences.
1) Item must have an adhesive backing. Adhesives can be replaced if they ever fail (haven’t experienced that yet), but suction cups fail far more frequently. Suction cups require larger surface area, i.e. not optimal for vertical dash facing you. When you’re mindful of which states are technically illegal to have window-based mounts, suction cups start to fall behind quite a bit.
2) Item must have a swivel lock, as seen in the images here where you can torque that spinning nut down to keep the position in place. I’ve had several mounts that just have a neck that is resistant, but turns and adjusts with enough pressure. These wear out quickly. No thanks. I like being able to lock it down tighter by hand to keep the best position.
This mount has both of these items. It’s simple and cost effective. Very happy with it.
Pro tip – When installing, look at this from a logical perspective. I mounted mine, I was feeling awesome about myself, thought I was a rock star engineer, oh yeah I’m awesome. Slap phone in place, brilliant! You’re a genius, Jason. Pull down the column to put it in drive, slapped my phone out of the mount. Derp. Luckily I had plenty of talc left on the mount when I gently pried it off the dash to mount it to a more fitting location, but point being, make sure you think about those kinds of things.
Works as expected. I have it on my car’s dash. I was a little hesitant because I didn’t want sticky residue on my dash board if I needed to remove it.
It has suction, along with a silicon backing which works just like on your windshield. The surface does have to be smooth for it to adhere properly. At first installation, it was great but I wanted to change the position so that I could get a better view of my phone. It took a little work. There is a tab on the silicon that you would use to loosen the grip after releasing the suction. You’ll need to tug on the tab, but after a little work on my part- okay – a LOT of work on my part- The silicon finally gave way. Clean and clear with no sticky residue on my dash, now I know I can remove it and use in my other car with no problem. The rotating head is great and the extra magnet tabs are a bonus because if you change your cover like I do, you could put one on each cover. There are also silicone pads that you would attach to your phone before placing the magnets on it so that you can remove it more easily if you change your phone. Overall I am very happy, I have one on my counter at home too! Works perfectly.
I am a huge fan of the MagicMount. I have a swivel dash mount of these in both my car and my wife’s car and absolutely love them. Words cannot do enough justice to share just how great the MagicMount is compared to all other types of mounts (and I’ve tried a TON of them)! The magnet is extremely strong as long as you don’t have too thick of a case (if you’re doing what I am and sliding the metal piece inside the case, between the phone and the case… I use an Incipio dual protection case) or you affix the metal to the outside of your case. I thought for sure that after the first bump I’d be fishing my phone off the floor, but I’ve driven down washboard roads and my iPhone 8 doesn’t budge. I especially love that there is no messing around… it’s a simple grab and go if getting out of the car or slap and go if you are getting in. You can freely rotate your phone, in case you feel like you need or want landscape mode or some other angle. Specifically speaking about this particular vent mount, I wanted to get a portable option for loaner vehicles (my car has been in the shop… a lot!) or rental cars when out of town or on vacation. I am oh so glad I got this because it was very frustrating not being in my car and not having a good place to prop or mount the phone so I could see Waze or have it generally at hand. I don’t think it is hyperbole to say that this vent mount is a godsend. Such a little thing, but it saves me so much frustration when not in my own car. Plus, I’ve actually found a use for it in my car to help stabilize a propped up iPad (note: it can’t fully hold the weight of an iPad, but an iPad resting on the middle of the dash and leaning up against this mount is a little bit of a different story). So, I’m getting more use out of this extra mount than I actually intended, which is even better. If you don’t want to have a permanent mount stuck to your car, don’t trust a cup holder mount or suction mount, and don’t care for the unsightly and goofy window mounts, definitely get this simple and super useful vent mount.
After going through so many variations of mounts in this car I had decided long ago nothing would be perfect for what I want. Then I learned about these from my ex husband of all people. It is EXACTLY everything I need it to be. It does not block my air-conditioning, it is not in the way of any buttons, it has not fallen off of the weird texture dash in this car, it is located close enough to the port to easily be charged, magnetic magnetic connection is strong and stable enough, I am it is easily the least hideous PhoneMounts I have ever owned, not to mention we handy little hook for your charger. Needless to say I am impressed. I’ve convinced 5-6 coworkers to get them too 🙃
The media could not be loaded. I have one of these models in my truck and I absolutely love it. So I needed one for my mom’s car since she’s letting me use it for the time being, and with her 2018 Chevy Equinox oh, there’s no real great place to put any type of different holder. So this came in handy! And I’m not completely happy with the placement, but that’s due to the car not having a great place to keep the phone handy. But with the holder itself, five stars! I made sure to clean the area and placed it on there with the applied pressure for a little bit. Let it cure for 24 hours oh, and Bam! Perfect 🙂 are you good to hold my Note 8 and have not had a problem yet 🙂
Had for about a year now, works great, magnet is super strong. Bumps and pot holes do not seem to be an issue. However DO NOT leave it on the window during the summer if you are not driving. The suction cup will get gooey and melt making an absolute mess on your windshield.
I bought a cup holder type, and two CD ROM phone mounts and returned them all. This mount goes right on the vent and holds the phone securely. The back of the mount has 2 options for thick or thin vents. So simple a Biden supporter can install it. I highly recommend this product.
I spent a lot of time looking for a magnetic phone holder for my new iPhone 12 that would work with the MagSafe magnet on the phone. I actually purchased one other product, but the magnet wasn’t strong enough to hold the phone so I returned it. This vent mount works perfectly. It holds the phone despite bumps in the road, etc. The included magnets aren’t necessary since there is a magnet in the phone already. I have a thin case on my phone and the magnet works through the case. Also, the mount connection to the vent works great, much better and more stable than I expected. I have an Audi A5 and it holds onto the vent perfectly. Plus very simple and low profile so it doesn’t look bad. Very happy with this product.
I LOVE the fact that this holds my phone via a magnet. Recently, I ordered one of those holders that attach to the vent, didn’t fit my vehicle. I did this because I upgraded my phone and I didn’t have a magnet on my new case for my new iPhone 13. Mistake!! This holder stays out of your way in the vehicle, if you use those apps from your insurance company for discounts for good driving, you can be rest assured your phone will be secure unlike the other types of car phone holders. I mention this because I just found out with certain apps like these if your phone jiggles or falls, then that can trigger the app to mistaken that movement for hard braking. Get this phone holder, you’ll be glad you did. Oh, another tip, when it’s hot outside with full sun hitting the windshield making your phone hot, just aim your middle air vents up to blow that AC on your phone while it’s on the holder. It’ll stay cool.
Enjoy!
