Swipe home animation stutters?

Swipe up Home stuttering on iPhone in iOS 16? Animation is still broken in iOS 16.1? It plays out smoothly a few times after update, but it starts to stutter soon after? This is a common issue, yet to be fixed by Apple!

Swipe Up Home Stuttering?

This issue has been noticed since the initial iOS 16 release, but we all hoped for a fix by iOS 16.1. Nevertheless, reports from the Release Candidate version confirm that the problem is not fixed:

“Swipe-up to Home Screen still stutters. I expected this to be fixed by the RC!”

More confirmations of this persisting issue are available on Reddit:

“16.1 RC – Animation stutter when swiping up/home. It’s still here.”

How To Fix Swipe Up Home Animation

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to troubleshoot this glitch.

1. Reboot iPhone

You can force restart iPhone and have the animation play out smoothly a couple of times, but it will brake again.

2. Turn Off AOD

Another temporary fix works if you disable Always On display on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. However, after a short reprieve the animation stutters again when your swipe up for Home.

How to: Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Always On (Turn Off)

An iPhone 14 user on MacRumors forums reports trying out numerous fixes without success including:

  • Change system language.
  • Try all iOS 16.1 betas.
  • Turn off Depth Effect.
  • Erase iPhone and set up as new.
  • Change wallpaper.
  • Change and remove widgets.
  • Delete some apps that run in the background like WhatsApp.
  • Change iCloud settings.
  • Log in to different iCloud account.

If you manage to find out a better fix don’t hesitate to share it in the comments. Also, inform us about any other problems that you encounter with iOS 16.1. We’re here to help.
