tvOS 16.1 update

Apple has released tvOS 16.1 build number 20K71 for Apple TV HD & 4K (1st and 2nd gen). This update brings new features like iCloud Share Photo Library as well as bug fixes and performance improvements! Check out the new issues too!

According to the What’s New section available in the System settings after the update we’re informed that:

  • 1. iCloud Shared Photo Library is available on Apple TV. However, you have to create one first on your iPhone, iPad or Mac to enjoy the shared pictures on your big screen!
  • 2. Matter support for using Apple TV as home hub. This allows users to control Matter accessories via Siri commands and from the Home app.

  • You can download this version, over-the-air, in Settings -> System -> Software Updates.
  • Select Download and Install and be patient until tvOS 16.1 is updated to your Apple TV.
  • Important: This version includes a significant number of security fixes. You can review all of them in the security document published by Apple.

tvOS 16.1 Problems Fixed

Apple TV users have reported over a dozen issues while running tvOS 16.0.

We’ve forwarded most of these complaints to Apple and expect some of them to be fixed in this release. Please share your feedback in the comments and let us know what has been patched:

  • 7. High pitched sound when connecting third-party Bluetooth speakers. (Status: ?)
  • 8. Mute button not working on Siri remote. (Status: ?)
