Some people report there are issues when you close the lid – this is because of settings. You will need to go to your MacBook Pro power saving settings and specify intended actions when the lid is closed – if it is set to "Sleep" then yes, the external monitor obviously won’t work.

Hello, yes this will work with any streaming platform you can watch on your computer. The cord allows you to project your display from a computer or laptop to an external display, whether that be a monitor or tv. Which means you can use it to watch shows or play games or even just to work on documents on a larger screen.

The cable works great with our 2019 Macbook Air (13"), so I’m sure it will work with a desktop Mac.

EDITED: I bought this in February 2020 and just recently had the opportunity to use it. The picture flickers in and out no matter what I did so I gave it a poor review and one star. The seller recently read my review and contacted me. They offered to send me a free unit to see if the other was just a faulty cable. My cable arrived within a few days and I got the opportunity to test it a few mins ago. It seems to be working great with my Surface Pro. I am happy to say I have changed my rating and I am very happy with the customer service that they provided. A+
I use this cable for an extra monitor for work. I connect/disconnect it daily. However, I have a a third screen as well and do the same. This cable has been giving me connection issues after 3 months. if i move my laptop slightly, the screen will go black. I thought maybe I might’ve been rough with the cable without knowing, but the other cable used for the other monitor has been in use for over a year and works perfectly fine. I’m convinced the cable quality itself is the issue.
After placing my review, the seller reached out to me offering a replacement or a refund. I didn’t know I had that option originally but they offer a lifetime warranty that I wasn’t originally aware of. Even with the first faulty wire, their willingness to replace or refund no questions asked made up for it tenfold.
Purchased this to connect my new MacBook Air m1 laptop computer to my TV. This cable is top quality and works perfectly.
I often use both a Macbook Pro 2017 and a Lenovo Chromebook Duet which only have one USB C port respectively. Being ultraportable, finding a single plug to go directly from my laptops into a projector I use (The Apollo Nebula) is important. Before this plug I had used a dongle on both then a basic HDMI plug but really wanted more seamlessness and quick transitions. This allows me to watch movies and do work on my ceiling as I’m laying in bed. Anyhow, this is the plug that did the trick. I got the 6 footer which was perfect and added flexibility if I ever want to plug any of my laptops into my big TV for Zoom meetups with friends/family. The thing just works. Happy I bought it and the build quality seems solid. Recommend!!!
I didn’t want this to be just any other 5-star review, that’s why I left a 4-star one. But don’t get me wrong, this is hands down a 5-star product… however…
The USB-C part is the saggiest of all of my USB-Cs that are hanging from my MacBook Pro 16 (and this includes my cheap USB-C headphones that I use when my AirPods Pro run out of battery).
Another thing is that the HDMI part is way too big, and it goes beyond the display limits, so I can see the cable hanging from below, which makes cable management difficult.
Also, the HDMI part runs way hotter than I would like.
There’s more. When the MacBook comes back from sleep status, the secondary display blinks two or three times. This didn’t used to happen with my cheap HP USB-C hub, and it also makes the Retina display blink, something that my HP hub never did.
Apart from all that, the product is solid. Both the USB-C and the HDMI ends have premium termination with aluminum, and the cable looks good and minimalistic (way more minimalistic than any other HDMI cable I’ve ever owned). The braided cable looks good and feels sturdy. I didn’t notice any kind of signal degradation, or unpleasant flickering or anything like that, so far. The image looks stable in both FullHD@60Hz and 4K@60Hz. While connected to the external display, I moved and forced both ends of the cables, and I didn’t notice any loss of image or anything strange.
I wish I could give this a 4.5-star review, but there isn’t such a thing…
UPDATE:
it turns out the settings on my LG OLED TV needs to be adjusted to show the full screen of the computer desktop. On the LG TV, the default setting on picture “Aspect Ratio” is “16:9”, which should be fine. But you must select “Just Scan” to show the full screen. Weird I know.
it is not the problem with this cable/adapter, hence the update on the rating to 5 stars.

The connection is from Microsoft Surface Book 2’s USB-C output to LG 4K OLED TV. The frame is bigger that the TV, i.e., the TV can’t show the full screen. When tried with a regular HDMI cable + USB-C to HDMI dongle it works perfectly in 4K. So it is not the problem with my laptop or the LG TV.
returning the cable.
I had a problem with my order and contacted UniAccessories via email. They got back to me and solved my problem in a matter of hours. They mentioned that they offer a lifetime warranty on this product so if I had any other problems to let them know.
I used this cable to connect an old Westinghouse TV with HDMI to my iMac. Although the TV did not show up right away, as soon as I disconnected the HDMI end from the TV and reconnected it, my iMac recognized the second monitor and I was in business.
It is a high quality USB C to HDMI cable for my home office. I purchased two cables to connect my Mac Pro to the dual monitors directly and it works well. BTW, I noticed that the Mac Pro does heat up when connecting to the external monitor.
It’s hard to know these days what is going to work and what makes a difference, especially when it comes to computers, monitors, and peripheries. After my MacBook 2016’s keyboard quit typing certain letters, I had to come up with a solution and it was to buy a monitor, and blue-tooth keyboard and trackpad to hook up to the MacBook–but since I had only thunderbolt outlets, I had to find the correct cable–AND this was it–HDMI to Thunderbolt. I guessed but after trying a Mac adapter (I had to wait until it arrived), this was the much better option.
I run a 2018 iMac with a 4K Viewsonic display in a recording studio. Lots of peripherals that work fine on boot up but shears had a problem with my system finding the external display. I’d have to reboot probably 8/10 times.
This cable solved the issue. I was using a USB3 to HDMI single adapter into a high speed HDMI cable and it was spotty.
Also, I’m almost positive the color accuracy has improved. I also use this display for photo correction and this cable corrected the jaggy edges of the photos that occurred when I would zoom in and out.
Definitely recommended for accuracy AND value.
