I can comment on why I don’t like the Panasonic telephones. For starters, the speakerphone volumes on the handset are atrociously low, even when set to max volume. You can barely hear them, and I am not exaggerating. My old Panasonic set (pre-KX-TGF575) never had this problem. I’m expecting the Vtech will be far better in this regard.
Second, the call screen/blocking features are different. There is no provisions in the Panasonic to require anyone hit the # key before going through to your ringer, as you get with the Vtech (and others). There are ways to minimize these incoming calls on the Panasonic, but you have to be a real propeller head to get them set up, but they don’t really prevent them like the simple "hit the # key before proceeding" feature does. The # feature is quite effective for eliminating the endless robo callers.
Panasonic answering machine has no indication of number of messages on the base unit, or indication on the handsets of any queued messages on the answering machine. Nor can you answer messages on the Panasonic handsets — have to pull them off of the base station for that.
Number of blocked call numbers ("call blocking") is limited to 250 on the Panasonic, 1,000 for the Vtech.
One feature I prefer on the Panasonics is that you can use individual NiMH AAA batteries rather than the shrink-wrapped battery packs that are more expensive to replace, but that’s a once-every-other-year issue when replacements are needed, not a deal breaker for me.
Overall, I’m tired of the limitations on the Panasonic, and now the failure of its electonics (dead answering machine). Time to try someone elses’s products. I’ll give Vtech a try for now.

I don’t think so. Mine just has a red light to indicate there is a new message.

Info About VTech IS8101 Accessory Handset for IS8151 Phones with Super Long Range up to 2300 Feet DECT 6.0, Call Blocking, Connect to Cell, Headset jack, Belt-clip, Power backup, Intercom and Expandable to 12 HS (Reviews From Amazon)
I love this phone, wow such amazing features, most I didn’t realize I was missing until I bought this system. I honestly didn’t need 5 phones, but for the extra $10 figured I would keep one as a spare, since spare phones cost way more than $10.
For the price of the phone, it was indeed a value. I wanted a phone system with long range capability and this was the only phone offered through Amazon with this feature. I tried to talk myself out of it and literally spent 3 days looking at phones, features, reviews and price, before I chose this phone. It honestly shouldn’t have been a question of buying it, but if I have learned nothing from my employer, it’s to do your due diligence when making a significant purchase.
To be honest, I am loving the call screening!! The amount of phone calls coming into my house phone has been reduced by at least 80-90%, and that is no exaggeration. Also, once you have received a call and added them to your approved list, they never have to leave their name again, it just rings them right through. But, don’t make the mistake I did when I first started, I was immediately pressing “1”, and this only allows that one call, not any future calls, you must press “2”, to approve that caller indefinitely. I was being too quick with my selection and didn’t finish listening to the options, and only found my mistake when I couldn’t quickly press “1” and heard option “2” was the option I really wanted.
Another feature I didn’t know I needed, was importing my cell phone address book directly into the phone!! Wow what a time saver, unfortunately it doesn’t sync with the screening, but that is just a minor detail. Being able to answer my cell phone through the phone was another added surprise as well, and you can even add a second cell phone!! WOW, mind blown.
The phones also came with a belt clip which was yet another feature that doesn’t come standard with many or any other phones that I researched. This was yet another feature I didn’t know I was missing out on, but I am loving that each phone has a belt clip.
A reason I was wanting a long range phone is that my house was built in the 1950’s, when houses were actually built solid, almost a little too solid, lol. It is very hard to get reception in my bedroom, which is the furthest from the base unit, but with this phone I can hear and be heard even out in my front yard on the parkway!! Thank you Vtech for making this awesome phone. Living in a stucco house is like living in a faraday cage when it comes to cell phones or wireless anything, well in my house anyway, it had become so frustrating with my old phone that I was beyond done, but this phone is AMAZING!!
I am sure I sound like a cuckoo when it comes to the amazing features offered on this phone, and my old phone was maybe 5-7 years old, at most, but Bluetooth, call screening, cell phone address book access, etc. wasn’t something offered back then and if it was I guess I didn’t want to pay the extra for it. I am not the most tech savvy person by any means, but this phone is so easy to use it made me feel like a rock star. So, if you have read this far through my review, what are you waiting for? Buy this phone and prepare to be blown away!! I was not paid to write this review, I paid about $160-190 for this system and it is worth every penny and more.
Excellent sound quality and range. Setup was very easy and straight forward. The instructions don’t include all of the options that are available in the phone menu like turning off the caller announce feature, ringer options, etc.
Love these phones! V tech delivers again. The buttons are bigger and the technology is updated. The previous V tech phones we had were almost 15 years old and were still working just fine, we just wanted to update. I love the color, sound quality is clear the range is excellent. My husband has used it all the way outside! I took a chance because there weren’t any reviews when I purchased but since I love V tech, I thought it was worth a try.
We purchased the Panasonic Set and had to return it. Sad as our other set we had for six years and did great. The buttons were too small and the sound was terrible, we had it on 7 and couldn’t hear it. The battery life off charger was terrible. Wasn’t pleased with tech support – just told us to buy a different phone system.
High praise for V-Tech support line and tech support, when we set it up everything kind of went easily but then we got confused and the tech answered quickly and walked us through step by step. We’ll be calling back to pair our phones and to figure out the blocking system.
We exchanged for the VTech distance ones. We have an acre of land and you can use it there and all the way to the neighbors and our mailbox across the road which is about 125 feet from house. The buttons are good for older hands and we like the instant call block button! Easy to read. We don’t like the bright red light at night a softer light would be preferable. We have to turn it face down each night. SOUND – while definitely better than the Panasonic – it still is fairly low for us since we are hard of hearing and use it on speaker phone. We haven’t paired our cell phones to the phone yet. The main thing that we are having problems with is the blocking system. It’s easy to block a call just push the button but the setup has been confusing. We set it up to block spam/robo calls and when it does this it the person on the other end hears a recording asking them if family or friend and if so to press the # key. Unfortunately, they usually hangup or give up before then and can’t leave a message either. The Robo call blocker was also causing problems when Walmart called to tell us medicines were ready, doctors when they were letting us know of an appointment. I’m sure there must be an easy way around all this but we haven’t had time to figure it out or call. Also, when you put this on the phone does not ring the top blinks red – so you’d better be looking at it or you don’t know. Sometimes it shows up on the tv briefly – but we don’t always watch tv and when I’m in the garden it has caused some problems when it doesn’t ring. For the most part we like the phone system.
This telephone is amazing. Hands down winner over our previous Panasonic. The Smart Call Blocker does the work for you. Instead of having to listen to a scam call–the ones that leave messages–with Smart Call Blocker turned on, it automatically does it for you. You see the window of the phone flashing that it is screening but the phone never rings. With the Panasonic I had to listen to the call, then I could block it, but it would continue to ring once the next time they called. I never clicked on Call Block with the Panasonic until I knew for sure it was a scam, so I had to listen, plus often we were not at home so had to listen as we listened to our messages. There are a few negatives but the positives far outweigh the negatives. The Panasonic had a silent time when the phones would not ring from a certain pm time until a certain am time. It also allowed you to have a special ring for vip callers and then a ring for friends that you put into your phonebook. But the V-Tech clearly announces the caller so it’s ok. Besides, any call that gets through is someone you want to talk to. We are doing the happy dance over this phone.
The sound quality of these phones is excellent. They are lightweight with large numbers and a large screen. It has a large storage capacity for storing phone numbers (HInt: When adding the names, if you want a space, press the number 0(perator) and wait a second-this is not in the instruction manual). The speaker phone is great quality and there is a clip that you can attach (don’t be afraid to press hard to attach it). That way you can use it hands free as you move about. The call block is one touch, but you have to hit the block button on the handset or base WHILE THE NUMBER IS STILL RINGING, otherwise you have to enter the information manually. It has a QUIET mode that you can access only on the base unit. Press and hold the # button, and when it says enter, you can choose 1-12 hours. The phones will not ring during this time. There is also an intercom feature, so that you can reach other family members without have to shout through the house. Oh yes, and they have a walkie talkie feature, too.
If there is one thing to criticize about the phone, it’s the caller announce function. The voice is not very clear, but it’s no worse than my Panasonic caller announce. I find that the unit is much more user friendly than my Panasonic and easier to look up a name for speed dialing. I have an older vTech phone system, without caller announce and I wanted to replace my Bang&Olufsen system, which although beautiful, is lacking many of the advanced features of these phones and B&O no longer makes phones. I forgot to mention that you can have up to 12 handsets with system, which is great if you have a big house. My guess is that you will love these phones. I’ve never had a problem with any vTech products. So enjoy your purchase.
Nice unit and easy to set up but the range is very over-rated. My unit drops out at about 500 feet.
This product has Old School Bluetooth with a short range of 15 feet, as stated by Vtech but I had a hard time finding that in the pre-purchase literature. I found out after I bought and tried the phone. I returned it. Other manufacturers use the same old Bluetooth tech so dig deep into the specifications of others if you need a longer range Bluetooth to use your cell phone with it. I wish I would have, duh. Everything else about the phones is as other reviewers say and I would have been satisfied if I wanted to leave our cell phones laying within 15 feet of the base to stay connected. That is very inconvenient. I carry my cell around with me so Connect to Cell was useless. My living room is 20 feet across so I was out of range at the other side resulting in garbled sound and dropped connection to my cell phone. Also you can not make a call at the base unless you use the handset as no Speakerphone on base unit. Range was good with the landline DECT 6.0 application so If the above does not matter with your usage then go for it. Mileage may vary. Hope this helps someone.
I love these phones. So tired of the robo calls. Now my phone rings once and if they don’t follow the prompts…nothing. The ability to share my cellphone phone book is also wonderful.
Our old Panasonic phones were several years old and we were looking for some new phones to replace them. These phones cut our eye and sounded like what we needed. We are not disappointed! First of all, our house is large and spread out and with our previous phones we could not get service in the master bedroom. With these phones, it is not a problem and they work great over a large distance. We are two seniors and only average in tech savvy, and we had no problem getting these phones set up. We love, love, love the smart screen blocking system. Our calls in the house have decreased dramatically and we are not getting those annoying sales and election calls. So nice to not even have the phone ring when those robocalls come! We have been able to set up voice mail, phone book, and pair our cell phones. As I was writing this, another robocall just got blocked! Amazing, and I heard nothing, just saw the light flashing on the phone. Buy this system and enjoy all that it has to offer!
