While it sees my 5ghz network, it refuses to connect to it. it only connects to the 2.4ghz one. why? i’m using the latest realtek drivers.

The short answer is that 2.4 GHz will generally register as having better signal strength compared to 5GHz. Windows tends to prefer this, and most consumer routers won’t signal the endpoint to switch to 5GHz. You can fix this by going to the advanced adapter properties, and seeing if you can set it to "Prefer 5GHz". Alternatively, the WiFi Mode setting can be set to a set that excludes 2.4GHz like 802.11 a/c/n/ac.

My product has gone bad in 7 months . The usb hub is not picking by my laptop. Who do I need to contact for warranty services

It doesn’t work on Linux unless you change certain security settings to allow the company to collect your browsing information.
I am completely against proprietary hardware of this nature

All usb wifi cards should be plug and play on Linux systems. If they aren’t plug and play then I highly recommend avoiding them if you value your privacy.

Will this work on a xbox

No. Incompatible with drivers and the Xbox’s built in WiFi would likely get interfered with.

Do you have to plug this into your computer?

Typically. Perfect Solution to Basement Wifi Problems…

This is the perfect affordable solution for those who have to work on a laptop or computer off of Wifi, but do not get a strong signal. I do my homework for college in the basement of our house, and have always struggled with my two laptops not staying on the Wifi. I bought this, and easily installed the drivers using the provided CD (I believe that there is an option to download the drivers from the internet if that is necessary). Both of my devices now not only work much better on our original network, but also now work on our 5G Wifi network, which was not accessible at all prior. Another benefit to this is that you can use the built-in Wifi chip to connect to a wireless printer and use this one to connect to the main network. It works amazingly well! I paid the full amount for this product and was not refunded in any way for writing this review. Please click the appropriate button if this review was helpful to you. Thanks.

Two of these adapters I bought would freeze. Turn off power saving options in Win 10 to correct.

What can I do if my USB WiFi adapter is frequently disconnecting?

My pc access the 5G now with this wireless adapter

The wifi adapter for pc was pretty easy to install ,i download the driver by user manualand is easy to use. More importantly, it solved two problems I had. First, my computer cannot access my 5G home network and with this new device I can. Second, my WIFI speed was slow but my ISP is providing high 400M to my house. The new device has substantially improved my internet speed to my computer over our home WIFI, I am quite satisfied.

FANTASTIC!

I have Mediacom Xtream cable internet, and have a newer HP desktop with built in wifi out in my shop, separate building, with the computer sitting probably 30-35′ away from the modem in the house. Since I signed up for Amazon Music Unlimited with the Ultra HD and HD streaming music, I noticed it was a little glitchy so I decided to run a speed test by Ookla. The wifi on the computer was around 21Mbps, and that’s extremely slow. So I bought this double antenna dongle in hopes that the large, external antennas would improve my wifi, thus my music. When I received the dongle I plugged it into a rear computer USB port, put the installation/driver disc in the computer drive, opened up the setup, clicked on Windows, it installed without the slightest problem, automatically switched my wifi over to the new USB double antenna dongle and I clicked finish. I then went to the Ookla speed test and ran a test, and now the wifi is SCREAMING fast, as fast as the wired ethernet in the house at 134Mbps. Needless to say this thing works like a charm, and the music sounds great with no more glitchy problems as well. I would highly recommend this very affordable dongle.

Best upgrade for any PC wifi need

I bought two models of WIFI adapters. This one yields the best WIFI signal and data flow bandwidth. I don’t have any easy way to get my desktop PC hard wired to my WIFI. And, there is no WIFI adapter on the motherboard. So, this is an inexpensive alternative to connecting my PC to the internet.
The description says that it’s designed for laptops. However, it will connect any PC device, though a simple USB connection, to the internet. It was very easy to connect. It came with a micro CD containing the drivers. Ran the installer app, and then plugged this adapter in. Connected up very fast.

Good signal, fast downloads and a stable connection

I had an older G wireless card in my old PC which stopped working. Didn’t want to get an external part for an old PC, so figured and USB design would be more versatile. Well, my old PC now has a much better WiFi signal and noticeably faster download speeds. While downloading a file, I was getting a max download speed of around 6.3 MB/s (68.4 Mbps) through a 2.4 GHz connection while plugged into a USB 2.0 port. If there were USB 3.0 ports on this PC, I’m sure the transfer would’ve been even faster. The older USB 2.0 ports are a limiting factor for this or any wireless USB adapter or flash drive. So if you have USB 3.0 ports on your computer, definitely use them instead.

The adapter is fairly small, lightweight and all black. It measures 2.45” long and 1” wide without the antennas which are 4.5” long. I’m running Windows 10 Pro and after plugging it in Windows automatically installed the device / driver. There was no need for me to use the CD or download anything else. It’s been working great for a few months now. Has a Realtek 8812BU chip, good range, dual band (2.4GHz & 5GHz) rated AC1200 and USB 3.0 for compatible ports. So far I had a stable connection and no interruptions. Overall, I’m satisfied with this adapter and can definitely recommend it.

200Mbps!!! GREAT for gaming!!

The media could not be loaded.  If “speed” and “budget” are what you’re looking for, look no further!!! This WiFi adapter for USB 3.0 is an absolute beast. I was running Sea of Thieves with legendary graphics turned on just to see if I could push it to a breaking point and I saw little to no lag at all. I’m super pleased with this product.

Oh and the install?? Your grandma could do it. Literally just plug it in, connect to WiFi, and you’re all set.

***keep in mind that I’m in Alaska where good internet speeds are hard to find. 200Mbps is absolutely mind boggling.

Solved my WiFi issues

My teenage son was giving me fits complaining about our wifi. For some reason, the signal is the worst in his room. We tried adjusting the routers antennas, tried two different repeaters, they only improved things slightly. As his tv was able to stream and his phone worked with wifi, I tried to convince him the problem was his desktop computer. It’s an expensive gaming computer with great specs, but it just consistently dropped the signal. I convinced him to try this adapter. We set it up, still had connectivity isuues, so I rebooted the router, and wow, everything works great now. No lost signal in weeks, no more complaints, and better yet, a very happy teenager. Highly recommended

Easy Installation and Significant Speed Improvement: from 40Mbps to 100 Mbps

As a programmer, most of my computers are directly connected to the ethernet, except for a desktop that is located in our family room. I bought a 150Mbps USB Wi-Fi many years ago which consistently achieved 40Mbps for both download and upload which is not bad since my internet service provider can provide only 100 Mbps and the distance from the Wi-Fi router is around 40 feet.

However, I had another laptop that needed a USB Wi-Fi, so I just plugged in the 150Mbps into the laptop and installed 1200Mbps on the Windows 10 desktop. Just out or curiosity, I decide to run a speed test before and after the installation on the desktop and the performance difference was significant: 40Mbps vs 100Mbps.

The installation was simple, and I was up and running in couple minutes. The desktop is an Intel -I7 with 16 GB of RAM and a SSD hard drive so before the upgrade I was able to surf the internet without much delay. However, after the upgrade, I did see a noticeable difference especially when viewing videos and even performing search engines in Google and Bing. Was it worth the investment? I think so!

Fast Installation & Blazing Speeds

These are awesome, install the software of a mini CD, plug in your new USB LAN (by Realtec) Windows pulls the driver needed right off the CD. Pick the network that is yours, might have to use your network key/password…….. Best thing going and you don’t even have to open up a PC to replace the bad network card inside. I have 300 MB down and 30 MB up service and I could not get any speed out of my older HP desktops that have Win 7 for the OS, many documents and photos on these PC’s. Anyhow using Speedtest.net and Fast.com I was only downloading about 15 MB and uploading about 3 MB. Tested newer AC USB LAN antennas got me up to consistently 100-200 MB low average of 150 MB download and my uploads are at 25 MB out of 30 MB on my service.

As you techs know there is so much reading to get a replacement LAN card for ratings on what a card will perform at and so on. This is truly a plug and play item, the easiest PNP I have ever used. Don’t be afraid to buy it, great product and a novice can have this installed in under 10 min. Don’t know about the performance on a Mac or Linux system but this item led off with bragging rights to all so I am using 2 Windows installations I am sure the other OS will work great too…… Buy it Buy it Buy it is all I can say
